Yankees star Joba Chamberlain downed vodka-and-sodas and caroused at a Nebraska strip club in the hours before he was busted for drunken driving, the Daily News has learned. The 23-year-old pitcher went drinking at a bar in downtown Lincoln and then capped off his Friday night at a local jiggle joint, where he got into a tiff with another customer over the rival Red Sox, witnesses said. Chamberlain - who had a blood-alcohol level more than 1-1/2 times Nebraska's legal limit when he was nabbed - was heckled as he and friends watched the dancers at the Night Before Lounge, witnesses said. "Some guy yelled out, 'If you played for the Red Sox, you wouldn't be sitting here,'" clubgoer Gary (Bo) Bohaty said. Boston was knocked out of the playoffs Sunday night. "That got a rise out of him," said Bohaty, owner of the Beacon Lounge, a bar next to the strip club. "[Joba] turned his head and said, 'What did you say?' and the guy yelled it out again." As Chamberlain kept shouting back, one of the pitcher's friends got into a shoving match with the heckler, said the club's manager, who asked not to be identified. Once order was restored, Chamberlain and his five friends stared at the gyrating dancers for nearly 90 minutes before leaving just after midnight. Chamberlain paid the $145 tab and left a $100 tip at the club, where the cover charge is $3, the manager said.

OK, look. I'm as obnoxious and big a Yankee hater as you'll find here. But enough is enough with this story. I got a chuckle out of this story when first reported, but no more. It's now time to help this guy out, like so many other people with alcohol problems (half of which are in denial of their alcoholism) and et his life in order. There was no need for the NY Daily News to go this far into it. Then again what do you expect from a NYC Tri-State area tabloid newspaper. What a shame. I expected this type of grabage from the Post, more the Daily News.

Did he not take the dollar bills?

Facinating news, a 23 year old kid goes to the stip clubs, and somtimes people do stupid things, especially when drinking.

Nice to see the kid is a good tipper.

Keith - What makes you say he has a "problem" with alcohol ? He is a kid that did something stupid. Not everyone that drinks, or even gets above the legal limit have "problems" with alcohol. A topic I know a little bit about being sober for 12 years.

Jeff. In my opinion driving drunk indicates at least the beginning of some sort of problem with drinking. It's just my opinion, and I am not an expert on alcoholism. There's a great column in today's New York Times about Chamberlain. Everyone should check it out.

Kat, a regular dancer at the joint, said she didn't even know there was a Yankee in her midst and took no notice of the beef.

This was the best line of the whole article...

And Keith, yes, of course Durnk Driving indicates a problem. With the law. 23 y/o who doesn't understand the need for moderation. And a designated driver despite his 'friends' who were with him. That being put aside, I do think Joba has more of a problem than we know for now. Its hard to be that successful and popular in NYC and be that young. Not making excuses for him as he is an adult and he needs to learn there are consequences.

Is it just me, or does Joba look like a fatter version of Vince Vaughn?

"at a local jiggle joint"

Jiggle Joint? Really? Is that writer a prude or as thick as 2 short planks?

He looks more of a drunk version of Roger Clemens..

She paid no attention to Joba's beef.

Seriously, though, imagine the broads at a Nebraska strip club. No wonder he was drinking so heavily, the talent was probably made up of Texas Two-Baggers.

What's a Texas Two-Bagger?

Hey, good morning, Walrus.

A Texas Two-Bagger is when the chick is so ugly, you put a brown-paper bag over her head and then you put one over yours just in case her's falls off.

Noted.

Must have had a small wallet....er, something like that!

October 21, 2008  07:56 AM ET

Oh no not a 23 year old going out and having fun. How dare he drink, and then of all things spend his money on such filth. There are only two things wrong with his night. 1 - He chose to get in the car after drinking toomuch. 2 - He forgot to invite me. Give me a double Jack and point me to the stage with a roll of crispy George Washingtons. Yehaw!!!

Stay classy Joba.
