Papelbon might not have closed Game 7

Had the Red Sox taken a late lead in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, the ninth inning may have brought an unfamiliar sight: someone other than Jonathan Papelbon emerging from the bullpen. Manager Terry Francona remains uncertain whether Papelbon, the first pitcher ever to throw his first 25 postseason innings without being charged with an earned run, would have been fresh enough to pitch in Game 7. "I don't know," Francona said. "I really don't know."

One of history's great questions, and we'll never know the answer. Life is just unfair sometimes.

Why bring in Papelbon when you had Mike Timlin ready to go? LOL

Well if that was just a 1 or 2 run lead then I wouldn't want anybody else in the mount than papelbon...let's just look forward to 2009.

Is there anyone in baseball more annoying than Pap?

No. Nor is there any player more over-rated. Annoying-wise, Beckett runs a close second.

Don't forget Manny too. Hmmm..I see a trend here...

Manny can certainly be annoying, but I'm confident this most recent meltdown was fully orchestrated by his agent to line up a big payday. I don't think we'll see behavior at that level for the rest of Manny's career. Problem for Manny is, he's got himself a scarlet letter now that won't soon disappear. We'll probably see some antics like those which were dubbed "Manny being Manny" in Cleveland, but that stuff is most laughable, mostly negligible. Papelbon is ALWAYS annoying, and nothing pleases me more than to see that ridiculous tough-guy look wiped off his face when he gives up a crucial hit or home run.

It was not his decision. The Rays decided for him.....

Yeah, Joba the Hut. Screams after every strike like he's won something. He's won nothing. At least Papelnuts has cred.

Pap has had his moments. I will have to correct you in that he is SLIGHTLY over-rated. Still very troubling to look at, though.
