Yankees interested in Cameron

General manager Brian Cashman refused to confirm or deny that Mike Cameron is high on the Yankees' list of free-agent signings if the veteran outfielder becomes a free agent. According to an industry source, the Yankees are waiting to see if the Brewers pick up a $10 option on Cameron, who will be 36 in January. If they don't, the source said, the Yankees have targeted him because they consider him an upgrade at center field, where they have Brett Gardner, Melky Cabrera and Johnny Damon.

What a surprise! Cashman is chasing another expensive, ageing outfielder. Bring in some kids from the farm for crying out loud.

Looks like the Yankees will splurge all out during the offseason. Well, if you missed the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, you will just picked about anybody along the way. more money more problems

where do you think Melky and Gardner came from... and look at what Melky has done for us.. its painful to talk him... Gardner is young and can be that fill in guy, Damon doesn't have the arm for CF, and is better in LEFT... move Nady over to RF, and the OUTFIELD would be set.

Hey for $10 I think the Brewers should pick up the option.

October 23, 2008  07:34 AM ET

Lol I was about to say that..$10 is pretty good.

great pick up... maybe with $10 i can start my own team

Someone needs to make up for Giambi's strikeouts if they don't resign him.

October 23, 2008  08:57 AM ET

I'm all for this move. Just another indication of poor management (Cashman excluded) by the Yankee brass. I think we all know who wants this cat right?

October 23, 2008  08:58 AM ET

$10 bones? That wouldn't even get you a decent Times Square lapdance

October 23, 2008  08:59 AM ET

OH GOD NO.......
another OLD MAN???????????

They should make a rule NOT to sign anyone older than 30

October 23, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Great. So much for sticking with the youth movement. That lasted about three months. If they put this crusty old dude in center over Gardner, I would really be surprised and disappointed. What we need is a drop in the median age of our outfielders, not a bigger log jam of aging players.

October 23, 2008  09:08 AM ET

don't do it cash......stick with gardner and melky. cameron will provide equal glove as the other two with maybe a little more pop in the lineup...not worth it.

and somebody please tell NYY25to13 to change that pic!!

I HATE missing the playoffs......
but I'd rather go down with youth,,,,
than hired guns.

We need guys that are CLUTCH, ROLE GUYS.
Cameron is neither.
he was a great OF.....NEVER a really good hitter.
Now he's just old & ready to break down

NOPE SORRY NOT CHANGING

October 23, 2008  09:25 AM ET

but come on.....that's just nasty. i can't take it!!!!!

October 23, 2008  09:36 AM ET

c'mon, he's only 36 and batted a whopping .243 last year (just slighly below his .250 lifetime). he's well worth the Yankees picking him up. And this is an upgrade to what they have?? Awesome!

October 23, 2008  09:40 AM ET

The Yankees don't need to improve their offense. They need to improve their defense and starting pitching. I have no problem with Cameron hitting 8 or 9 in the lineup at .250 because he can still play a very good CF despite his age.

$10? Cameron must not have a very good agent.
