here is not a high level of agreement among scouts about where Colt McCoy will ultimately fit into the NFL draft. As for the "when," the Texas junior quarterback -- a favorite to win the 2008 Heisman Trophy -- made that clear this week, telling Sporting News, "I'm going to play here for four years." "I've been blessed to be able to play here," McCoy said. "Not very many people get to (start) here for four years, so what an opportunity." McCoy has been projected as a first-round pick, but more often, he is slated as a mid-rounder. He is listed among the top 10 quarterback prospects for the 2009 draft by virtually every reputable scouting service. As of Tuesday, Sporting News' Pro Football War Room listed McCoy as the No. 6 quarterback prospect for the upcoming draft.

STAY , ENJOY THE COLLEGE LIFE, THE OUTSIDE WORKING WORLD SUCKS............COME OUT NEXT YEAR AS THE #1 PICK.

I'm a fan, but I'm not too sure where McCoy fits in the draft. Maybe he'll pack on more muscle in the offseason, but I think he can be a top ten pick if he comes out after his senior year.

October 23, 2008  01:04 PM ET

Then he won't have to deal with the Bradford/Tebow/McDaniel competition either, assuming they all go.

October 23, 2008  02:15 PM ET

If he comes out this year he's a top ten pick.. If it's next year I think he's a top five choice.

"If he comes out this year he's a top ten pick.. If it's next year I think he's a top five choice."

Dream on, CB. He'll be mid-round pick at best and a subsequent pro flop, just like poor persecuted Vincie.

osddad is right on. Enjoy the limelight in college for another year, Colt. Then find a good job as a used car salesman or something.

October 23, 2008  04:13 PM ET

so hes transferring to tennessee next year?

just kidding.

October 23, 2008  04:32 PM ET

#3, I do believe Bradford is a sophomore. Tebow's a junior, and Daniel is a senior... so he'll only have to deal with two maximum (Tebow/Daniel - Daniel's gone for sure and I'd bet a week's salary Tebow stays for his senior year).

Truth be told, I think he'll stay too.

Come on, Buckeye. This guy is nothing like Vince. Colt will do amazing things in the NFL. What's up with hate, Bud. By the way....good luck this weekend. Wouldn't mind seen Penn State go down.

Buckeye94558 .. I think you were thinking of Troy Smith.

October 23, 2008  04:57 PM ET

Hey buckeye94558, you shouldn't take shots at Texas Quarterbacks. Where are Ohio St. Quarterbacks from the last six or seven years? I don't recall any of them winning "Rookie of the Year" or even playing in an NFL game. And by the way, Vince isn't done.

October 23, 2008  05:01 PM ET

that's easy to say now, wait until the NFL waves buckets of money in your face. Remember T.J. Ford was 110% sure he was coming back and I believe Vince had a similar comment. But then again maybe he just likes thanking God enough for the oppurtunity to be at Texas that he'll stay to do it for 12-14 more games next year.

October 23, 2008  05:09 PM ET

Colt is a great QB (it hurts to say it bring a life long sooner fan) and he has the size to play at the next level. And the staggering thing is 80 plus % completions! Vince was/is a great athlete who willed his team to that national championship, Colt McCoy is a great passer putting up Heisman numbers with out a preseason great supporting cast. Unless he starts throwing pics at an alarming rate I can't see him not winning the Heisman. And yes, Bradford is a sophomore.

October 23, 2008  05:12 PM ET

I think he should go to the NFL. Look at what happened to Brian Brohm (spelling?) and I can't stand to see Texas beat OU again!

October 23, 2008  06:01 PM ET

how tall is he?

October 23, 2008  06:17 PM ET

He's 6'3....and strong this year....He could go this year, if he wanted to...

No hate here. Just that I've done my time in Texas and long ago tired of hearing how EVERYTHING is bigger there, including anything to do with UT athletics. Colt is an above average college QB, and in my opinion, which I am entitled to, does not show promise as an NFL QB.

Re Troy Smith, no one outside of the Smith family that I am aware of, myself included, thought he was going to be a great pro, which he isn't. Satisfied Horn4 and yourmama? And by the way, Vince isn't done crying, you mean to say?

October 23, 2008  09:26 PM ET

6'3" he is tall enough to go pro so its completely a personal decision, it's nice to stay but he risks injury just ask Florida TE Corneleus Ingram. Came back and destroyed his knee. In his case coming back allowed him an extra yr to beef up but for a QB who likes to run as much as he does, not sure. Wonder same about Tebow. But Tebow may project as a FB in pros, who knows. In any event if he comes back and forgoes the $$$ you have to appreciate that especially these days.

October 24, 2008  12:00 AM ET

I love Colt, his smarts and his heart, but he doesn't have nearly the arm needed to succeed in the pros. In college, he can get out of trouble, fake the run, and throw to the open man (and there almost always is one). In the pros, he'll have to zip it into tight coverage, and he'll get creamed if he tries to run.

Like Major Applewhite, he's got a future in coaching -- the kid is SMART. He's also the best college QB in the country. Enjoy your time at the top, Colt. I'm glad you're sticking around.

October 24, 2008  12:35 AM ET

He'll continue to beef up. He's tough and manages to put together all the intangibles in a game to gut out a win. Whether he's drafted in the first round or later really doesn't matter (except to his short term wallet), I look for him to be a star NFL quarterback ... and I don't even like him.

October 24, 2008  01:39 AM ET

Colt McCoy is a solid player, but to be a solid NFL QB you must have a ROCKET arm. Colt does not posses enough arm strength, in my opinion, to play QB in the NFL. Perhaps he'd be a reasonable back-up, like the backup QB of the Colts (can't remember the name, played at Wisconsin). But he's not a first or second round draft pick.
