Phoenix wing commits to Texas
Phoenix North High junior basketball player Daniel Bejarano told Texas coach Rick Barnes on Thursday that he will play for the Longhorns after he graduates in 2010. Bejarano, a 6-foot-5 1/2, 205-pound wing, who averaged 22 points and 9.8 rebounds as a sophomore, is ranked as the 16th overall prospect in the Class of 2010 by Rivals.com, and 12th overall by Scout.com. Arizona Stars coach and North assistant Ray Arvizu Jr., said Bejarano enjoyed his unofficial visit to Texas last weekend and was taken by the relationship between coaches and players. "The facilities are second to none," Arvizu said. Arvizu said Texas and Arizona State recruited Bejarano the hardest. He said Bejarano also received scholarship offers from UCLA, West Virginia, Southern California, Washington, Indiana, Kansas, Oregon and Memphis.

Rick Barnes is a beast at this recuiting thing. He really made basketball popular at Texas, probably the most football-crazed state.

He's done a great job but I hope there not going to start calling him Mr. April.

Probably the most football-crazed state? Is the most football-crazed state. And I agree as far as Barnes being a beast in the recruiting department. Big 12 has the two best recruiters in the country in Bill Self and Barnes.

"Big 12 has the two best recruiters in the country in Bill Self and Barnes"
Are you forgetting about my main man Roy? He is hands-down the best recruiter in the nation. It doesn't even seem fair. I'll give it to Barnes, Roy has the luxury of throwing around a program name such as UNC Basketball, and Rick has definatly built Texas into a Power Program year in and year out.
Roy is still the Best at getting the top talent.

Rick has done a good job recruiting at Texas. How about winning one though?

Roy didn't get the top talent at Kansas. He had several solid recruiting classes, that were focused on players that fit his style of basketball at that time. But he never got the "top" talent while he was at Kansas (except maybe Paul Pierce). And even before Roy got to Carolina, they were pulling the "top tier" guys with the likes of Bill Guthridge and Matt Daugherty. So, it has very little to do with Roy's recruiting abilities at this point, to get those top guys to go to UNC.

Not to mention that the fact that Michael Jordan went to UNC, and considering he is the best basketball player of all time......almost every teenager (even now, with Jordan being retired for over 5 yrs and most of these recruits having been 10 yrs and younger when Jordan was in his prime) wants to go there for that simple fact.

Barnes is having to convince guys to play basketball in a state where high school football gets more attention the most college basketball. And Self has the same struggles that Roy had at Kansas, as far as convincing guys to come to the a lil town in the middle of nowhere. But already, Self has recruited more mcd's all-americans then Roy did, but also won a championship with that talent. Roy never could do that at Kansas, and his one championship came with a team of all Daugherty's players.

I was referring to his first two years at Kansas, and the lack of McD All-Americans those two years. Solid recruiting classes, but it did take two years before he convinced Julian, Mario and Brandon to come to Lawrence. Calm down buddy, I was praising him.....as I'm a Jayhawk for life. lol.

Lets see if any of these guys stick around for a sophomore year, if so this team could be scary in 2010!
