Zona recruits reconsider commitments

Lute Olson's retirement has prompted some of next year's Arizona recruits to reconsider their verbal commitments to UA. Top-rated point guard Abdul Gaddy is weighing whether to decommit for a second time, said his father, Abdul Gaddy Sr. The 6-foot-3 senior from Bellermine Prep in Tacoma, Wash., is rated No. 9 nationally in the 2009 class. There is a good chance; there is that possibility," the elder Gaddy said about his son pledging to another school. The father of Solomon Hill, another UA recruit, said his son would consider staying as long as UA assistant Reggie Geary is still on the staff. "We need to know what Reggie's role is with the team," said Solomon Crawford, the father. "If Reggie is not an integral part of the team, I don't think Solomon is going." Hill, a 6-6 forward from Fairfax High in Los Angeles, told USA TODAY that Geary told him Olson "was stepping down because of health reasons."

The changing of the guard at Arizona has begun, and like Indiana, could get ugly.

If they hire the right coach these guys will stay. It's easy to speculate now but it's still very early in the process.

Good luck to Coach Olson. I enjoyed watching his teams compete over the years. He seems like a class act who will be missed in college athletics.

The more and more I hear about Lute- the less I like him.

I mean why wait until a month before the season starts?
SO SELFISH

I am not an Arizona fan and never will be but I live in Tucson. You must give Lute some credit for what he has accomplished but after last years debacle, and remember Lute hand picked Kevin O'Neil, and the personal issues, I knew he had lost it when he came out a few weeks back and announced another marriage. Even my wife was flabergasted. The timing is terrible but how it got out was not planned. You cannot trust anybody with this type of info.

Is he getting another divorce or a hangnail? This guy's as fragile as Richard Simmons at San Quentin

He's not doing it to just say Eff the program and basketball. He left because he is frustrated with being forced to recruit one-and-dones to stay competitive. He has long been a vocal opponent to One-and-done, championship now, recruiting, but his A.D. is forcing his hand, my guess is that enough was enough.

Olson was one of the class guys of college basketball, and he built men that turned mostly turn out to be good professionals, which is hard to say for other coaches today.

I agree with youcollege hoops is effed with the turnstile it has become for kids to get seen and go pro. I won't even get into the educational ramifications of letting kids shoot for the pros and not get degrees.

He can be upset as much as he likes about the one and done system, but that doesn't make it okay for him to just leave a month before the season starts. That's not fair to the players he recruited nor to the school (not that I care about Arizona). What exactly is the health reason? If it's really serious I can totally understand, but if it's something he's known about for a while this a dick thing to do.
