09:35 AM ET 10.26 | Kellen Winslow's suspension was rescinded by the Browns on Saturday after club officials received copies of text messages from a Browns public relations employee telling Winslow not to reveal that he had a staph infection, a source close to the situation told The Plain Dealer. Winslow will still be fined $25,000 for comments about the Browns not protecting its players enough from staph, but he will not forfeit the entire $235,294 game check for sitting out today's game in Jacksonville. He also stood to lose another $1 million based on the terms of his restructured contract, which stipulated he would lose that amount in the event he engaged in conduct detrimental to the team. Winslow's arbitration hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, but the two sides reached agreement Saturday after Winslow's representatives sent copies of the text messages to higher-ups in the organization, who apparently were not aware of them, according to the source. Sometime Saturday, Browns owner Randy Lerner called Winslow to express his regret about how it unfolded. The text messages urged Winslow not to reveal his staph infection and said Browns General Manager Phil Savage would get involved if he did. Winslow also was told in the texts that revealing staph would touch off a firestorm.

Why do people text, what an inaccurate, impersonal way of communication. Trying to communicate anything by text that is beyond 2-3 words is risky.

I'm glad that he had the messages to back him up! It seemed like he was getting shafted for speaking the truth about a very serious problem...Not right...

Who has less credibility now - the Browns organization, the gutless Cleveland media (which rushed to condemn Winslow and shill for Browns management) or the disreputable sports blogs like Deadspin and ProFootballTalk that took great joy spreading rumors about Winslow condition?

Whomever holds the most blame here I don't know but I do I think Winslow came out smelling like a rose on this one.

You can NEVER hide the truth for long, it always gets out. Winslow's past has him pegged as a malcontent so no one gave him the benifit of the doubt here but he was right and the Browns were wrong. The thing is they DID use him as a piece of meat and now they're going to lose him. He's on the verge of being a great tight end but he'll be doing it for another team.

You mean to tell me that a little ol' staph infection has sidelined the soldier? I didn't know you didn't have to show up for work during war.

Innacurate? Why is it risky for more than 2-3 words? I will agree that is impersonal.,

The team was wrong but Winslow is a tool! Riding daddies coat tails. He hasn't done a thing in this league yet. I guess it's hard to catch a ball when you don't play.
