Rockies shopping Holliday

The Rockies have informed teams that left fielder Matt Holliday has joined fellow NL West standout Jake Peavy of the Padres as available. An executive who speaks regularly to Colorado officials described the Rockies as very motivated to do a deal. "This is not payroll driven," the executive said. "They can afford him next year for sure. They just understand that there is no way they can keep him long-term and want to maximize his value." The Rockies, still living in regret over the mega-deals they gave Mike Hampton and Todd Helton, will not go to those contractual lengths to retain Holliday. In fact, there are only three scenarios Colorado is weighing now: 1) Trade Holliday this offseason. 2) Trade him in July, especially if the Rockies are not contending. 3) Play out next season with him, let him leave for free agency and recoup the draft pick compensation.

I imagiine he has lost some value....plus he has played in Denver, so at some point they need to drop this bum. They will not trade this boy until July next year.

Gotta agree Bond, they will trade him in July if he is still not himself circa 2007. Unless of course they are a contender next season.

The Rockies will not contend next year...they don't have the pitching. Trade Holliday now for some help. he's overrrated anyway

meaning if they put a good team on the field, consistently, invest in homegrown talent and show the fans that they WANT to be competetive.....people will come to the ballpark

he's better off staying with the Rockies. I would say 4 years, $13-19 million a year. But the front office still has to keep in mind: MIKE HAMPTON, and the declining Todd Helton.

Right now, it is the Helton contract more than the contracts in the past that are killing the Rockies. Helton is declining rapidly and he is making "prime" money. Basically, he virtually no trade value. Boston was interested at one point but the Rockies wanted too much for him. They should have taken the deal to allow them to eat the contract. Because they have too much money locked up in Helton, they are looking to trade away young players.

If the lack of feedback to your moronic posts isn't any indication to you, perhaps the virtual echo should clue you in.

Like Philly, they've had no trouble selling out this last year because the fans had high expectations, which apparently are about to be met. I agree with you jgb.
