Commish: Big Ten official blew pylon call
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said the decision by a replay official to award Michigan's Brandon Minor with a touchdown against Michigan State on Saturday, overruling the on-field referee's call, was "not acceptable." "The people in the replay booth made a mistake," Delany said while meeting with reporters at the conference's basketball media day Sunday. "It wasn't a mistake of judgment; it was a mistake of an application of the rule. They applied the wrong rule and they applied it improperly." Minor leaped to make a 19-yard catch from Steven Threet and landed out of bounds, causing the on-field referee to rule the play incomplete. The replay official overturned the call, saying Minor's foot hit the pylon. According to NCAA rules, however, an airborne player that touches a pylon is considered out of bounds.

Funny how he didn't state the officials name? Interesting? Could it be because Dick Honig was one of two people in the replay booth? No it couldn't be? Could it? FWI, Honig is a Big Ten replay official and former supervisor of officials for football. He worked virtually every Michigan game for a 22 year period and is most responsible for replay having handed Michigan unearned wins against Washington, Utah and Penn State in 2002 and jobbed the Nittany Lions in their context with Iowa the same year resulting in Joe laying the wood to him after game by head-locking him. Oh, and there is the little fact that Honig is a Michigan alum, football booster and former assistant coach. But that couldn't have impacted his performance over the years, could it?

Yeah, I was surprised they over ruled the initial call of "no td". It wasn't a TD. But maybe it was payback for MSU tripping Desmond Howard in the end zone back in 1990. The MSU player admitted he tripped Desmond.
Michigan sucked this weekend. The team has not improved which is disappointing. There were some bright spots but not enough for this team to break through. Time to write off this season and look forward to 2009.

Just what are you looking forward to in 2009? A team that shows little heart? A coach who can't make the change from WVU to uOFm?? A bunch of FR who wont be ready to play??
Then again 4 or 5 wins would be something you could look forward to!

Sexton,
Im just looking at Saban last year and Saban this year and hoping there are some parrallels. Well...Im eating crow after ragging on weiss so much. 2009 is not going to be that much better, same problems as this year. Where is Ron English?

Even with a freebie touchdown Dick Rod and the once mighty Wolverines could not deny their little brother a convincing victory. How pathetic.
The clock continues to tick on the Dick Rod era in Ann Arbor. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Tree City,
You can't compare Saban & Rich Rod. Different animals. I knew it was going to be a tough year when Big Tex left. No matter who michigan gets in 2009 as a QB they wont be able to run this team very well. You just have to hope to win the games you're suppose to. I think you're looking at 2012 before things really turn around for ya.
But hey, you do have the most wins & the best win %. M's last losing season was 1967? (or something) that's alot to hang your hat on.
As a ND I want the win % back! Then UofM can start winning again. Just not against ND! :)

Sexton,
You are right. Rich Rod won't have the the same problems that Weis has had and will bring glory back to U of M quicker than ND will.

Based on what I have seen thus far, I am not ready to make any claims that RROD will have UM back to being UM faster than Weis did....
It's too soon to cast a verdict on this coach. Everyone just calm down a bit...

Mr. Beepo, call me obtuse for never coming up with the Richard-Dick parallel. Dick Rod is such a better nickname than Rich Rod! It'll come in handy November 22. Go Bucks!

Well, I'm a Michigan fan, but even I knew the call was wrong. If UM had won (by a TD or less) it would have been tainted.
of course, MSU has gotten the benefit of bad calls in two of their wins (clock stop game, Desmond Howard getting tackled back in 90) so it wouldn't have been too outrageous.

Bim, even as an ND fan I would not say that the Irish "are back" just yet. They appear to be moving in the right direction but one or two embarrassing losses during the second half of this season (USC and maybe BC) and they will have erased what positives they have shown so far this year. MU will certainly improve next year and beyond based on RRs track record elsewhere. The question is will it be fast enough for their rabid fan base. When a program has won as much over the years as the Wolverines it is very difficult to accept a (or maybe two) losing season(s).
