Knicks eyeing Mullin for GM?

A reader wondered whether Donnie Walsh might have not hired a general manager last off-season for a reason. And that reason being he wants Chris Mullin for the job. Interesting theory. Walsh and Mullin share New York City ties, and Walsh did bring Mullin to the Pacers late in Mullin's career. But, let's not forget, Walsh and Mark Jackson have NYC ties and Walsh brought Jax to the Pacers, as well. Yet when it came time to hire a coach, Walsh passed him over. So if Mullin becomes available, it's possible, no doubt. But by no means is it a slam dunk.

Too many what if stories for the Knicks today. Mullin is a Redmen for life but it will be a while before he becomes a Knick GM.

Brooklyn and St. John's for life!!

He's coming home and not a moment too soon. Donnie Walsh needs a General Manager to do the heavy lifting.

Before I get cracked on for using the term heavy lifting: yes I mean Eddy Curry.

Walsh needs to focus on the player personnel - not men in Suite. Isaiah is still on the pay roll... yikes..

Isiah is only on payroll at Dolan's behalf. Wouldn't put that on Walsh.

New York Newsday is really having a field day with all the "what ifs" today. Wasn't there anything they could write about that's been confirmed? The last time I checked, Mullin had a job. Did something happen overnight?

Another Knick "wishful thinking" article. He're mine from March 2010:

After recently hiring Chris Mullin as GM. The Knicks have acquired LeBron James (small forward), Dwyane Wade (shooting guard), Amare Stoudemire (power forward), and Tyson Chandler (center).

Negotiations with Chris Bosh continue. Management is trying to get Bosh to agree to come off the bench in a sixth man roll. Mullin said the negotiations are "progressing nicely".

That might be the funniest thing I have ever heard. But you forgot to add that all this was possible because Mike D'Antoni finally got through to Eddy Curry. After talking with Mike, Curry re-evaluated his life, worked hard to get in shape and became such a competitor that the Knicks were finally able to unload his bloated contract in a trade that brought them Derron Williams and two unprotected first round picks.

Because he's done such an awesome job at Golden State.

Robert Rowell who is President of the Warriors does not seem to share your opinion.

Knowing how successful the Knicks have been in choosing office and coaching personnel, could it be that it is not Chris Mullen, but Matt Millen that the Knicks are considering?

Admittedly nothing much but that Golden State situation is difficult. It's kind of like Denver. A lot of guys lobbying the owner for the players they want.

In my opinion he and Walsh will work out fine, partly because they both are City boys and they want to make the Knicks work.
