Ex-Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has expressed interest in the opening at the University of Washington just hours after the school announced Tyrone Willingham will not return next season. Kiffin spent six years as an assistant in the Pac-10 with Southern California, the last two as the Trojans' offensive coordinator, before becoming the Raiders coach in January 2007.

See above subject.

Yes, you go there Kiffin. And we will never have to hear from you again.

October 28, 2008  09:18 AM ET

I like Lane Kiffin but I don't think he's going to turn Washington around.

October 28, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Well take him at Syracuse anyday

Boys, Boys....The Kiffin montra has got to stop. The real question is..."Can he be a Great or even Good Headcoach!" He certainly has the name recognition, but what has HE really done? When at SoCal. he had the 'Pete Carroll' effect there and that made the team what it is. I don't remember Carroll being distraught over Kiffin leaving to go to the Raiders, he may have even been releived. Kiffin should try his abilities at a 1AA school or as a coordinator at a 1A school, then move up into the head coaching spot.

One of Kiffin's requirements is that Al Davis be hired to run the defense. He found with the Raiders that by concentrating on the offense only, he was able to raise his team to very high levels.

Serious? Go from NFL to 1AA? Please, IMO, one of the main reasons why Kiffin sucked at Oakland (and why most coaches will suck at Oakland) is becuase of the Godfather sitting up in the owners box. The person that needs to be sent packing is the spoon fed, blanket wearing owner. Kiffin wasn't given a chance to coach. It was like he had the Head Coaching title but the authorization of a Asst. Head Coach. I think Kiffin would be like Carrol, Riley and Erickson of the Pac-10 where they suck as NFL coaches but actually perform well in the NCAA. Not saying he will be as good, but saying that he will be better off coaching College then Pro players.

Its true that Oakland is a graveyard for coaches.....My point, Broncoup, is he hasn't proved to me that he can be successful outside of USC. Do you seriously think Kiffin could out coach the top fifty or sixty 1A coaches. I think that would be a stretch, but maybe. Maybe UW will be the 1A entry level job, but I hope not. UW schedules are murderous. With that scheduling, even Pete Carroll, maybe, could pull off a 9-10 win season at UW, but not Kiffin. Head coaching ain't easy, so, is Kiffin ready was my point. UW deserves a seasoned coach, with a complete staff, and an AD that dosen't try to get to the BCS tomorrow, by going the hardest route possible. My example would be the Nebraska with Pelini. Good luck to your UW teams. Beautiful campus...etc.

This would be a great hire....bring in fresh presences in that program, and bring them back to the top shelf football program that they deserve to be...

I agree with the above post. He really got a bum deal at Oakland. His big mistake was to think he ever had any control over the team. This should not be a problem in Washington where he would be the man! Love to see him suceed and put Al Davis in the grave where he belongs.

October 28, 2008  08:52 PM ET

The real question is...have we finally seen the end of Ty Willingham? He has left a trail of destruction behind him every place he's coached. That is the trend Kiffin needs to consider. Stanford, Notre Dame and Washington...all left for someone else to turn around. My hope is Willingham ends up at Miami, Syracuse or any other school that I'd like to see lose!!

October 28, 2008  10:06 PM ET

He should also check out the walmart greeter position. Great fit for him.

October 29, 2008  02:53 AM ET

Kiffin should just coach Pop Warner. He sucked at USC and he sucks with the Raiders. I could have coached Leinart and Bush to a National Championship berth just by crossing my arms and letting Leinart make all the calls, which is exactly what Kif did.

October 29, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Washington should take Pinkel and Pinkel can hire Kiffin as the coordinator

What, he didn't leave Stanford or Notre Dame in that bad of shape.. not like UW is now...

I think he will stay in the Pac-10, but he would do well at Clemson. The overbearing AD there would be a cake-walk compared to the crap he put up with at the Raiders. Tennessee wouldn't be a good fit for him.
