With C.C. Sabathia expected to sign with the Los Angles Angels, the New York Yankees are in the hunt for A.J. Burnett, the next-best free-agent starter. So will runners-up in the 2005 Burnett sweepstakes, the Texas Rangers and the Washington Nationals.

Burnett scares me...

Seems like a typical pitching - for - a - contract guy. I fear he will be more Pavano and less Burnett in the Bronx.

I hadn't heard that CC was going to sign with Los Angles.

October 28, 2008  08:54 AM ET

Since when are the Angels front runners in the CC Sweepstakes?

I always thought the lucrative 20 mil+ contract from the Yankees would get him there but i guess not.

Yep

A line of interested people doesn't mean it's a result of smart thinking. Don't believe me? Think about it the next time you drive by your local free clinic right before it opens.

And you are rightly scared....

What makes your fear even more warranted is his recent contract
and games started.....the guy is CHRONICLY hurt

You cannot pay and RELY on an ace-type pitcher & have him
sitting on the bench for 2 months at a time

Carl Pavano revisited

October 28, 2008  09:48 AM ET

hahaha...Carl Pavano revisited...ya know...he actually didnt play that bad in the final few games there at the end of the season...he was actually a better pitcher than we had seen on the mound for a while...not counting mooses solid year.

"Los Angles"? Oh yeah thy're the new hispanic group that teaches geometry to underprivileged kids in East LA, my bad!

Well someone should teach some grammar to the FN writers. If they're paying this guy to write, they might as well hire Grossedout to edit.

That wouldn't be a bad fit, and y'know he could blow more than just grammar! Nice talking to you last night, I got your prescribed "method", I'll try to employ it.

When did CC sign with the angels? Oh wait, he didn't.
When did Burnett opt out? Oh wait, he didn't.

Stop predicting the future.

me either, nothing about him signing with them, i thought he was wanting to stay in the NL...

Burnett seems to get healthy only at contract time. Yanks beware. I can hear Cashman singing "We won't get Pavano'd again" to the old Who song now.

If Burnett goes to Washington, I predict big things for the Nats in '09, like clinching last place in June as opposed to mid April.
