LB recruit picks Clemson over UGA

Northside-Warner Robins linebacker Eric Fields has ended his flirtation with UGA and committed again to Clemson, according to GoGamecocks.com. Fields, an AJC Super 11 selection, committed early to Clemson but backed away from it in early September, saying he wanted to take official visits with both the Tigers and Georgia. Fields took an unofficial visit to Georgia for the Alabama game with his high school teammate, defensive tackle Abry Jones, who has committed to UGA. According to Jones, UGA linebackers coach John Jancek spoke with Fields at the game but only about taking the ACT test again and not a scholarship. Fields also told the website that he will only take an official visit to Clemson.

October 28, 2008  09:20 AM ET

He must like Clemson considering he doesn't even know who the coach will be.

October 28, 2008  10:19 AM ET

He must like Clemson since they aren't requiring his stupid **** to get his grades up.

October 28, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Spoken like a true GA fan, rip on the kid for chossing the school he wants to play for. Now thats class

October 28, 2008  12:34 PM ET

He must want to go to a real conference rather than the SEC!

You obviously don't follow recruiting. Unlike the SEC, the ACC doesn't accept partial qualifiers. If he doesn't get his grades up, he won't be at Clemson next year.

Clemson average SAT score is 1250 this year. Not too shabby for a state school. Also, the kid is from GA, less than an hour away. Most recruits in this area choose between Clemson and GA. Very similar football atmospheres and fan base but Clemson is ranked much higher academically. You can check out the Princeton Review for if you don't believe me, top 20 public school. If I'm not mistaken UGA entrance is guaranteed and paid for if you have just a B average in high school. As far as a coach goes our program is bigger than any one coach. Recruits see this the moment they step on campus. Don't be surprised if Dabo is signed long term in the off season.

October 28, 2008  05:59 PM ET

Dabo will not be your next coach. Not a big enough name and will not please the alumni. Forget Dabo, want happen.

October 28, 2008  06:18 PM ET

If the GA coach was talking about ACTs and not scholarships, then im guessing the kid isn't that smart, and is probably borderline eligible for acceptance... not worth the time for GA, you got the pick of the litter around there, and there are plenty of better possibilities out there

October 28, 2008  11:26 PM ET

hey UGA fans just how many of these scholar type players you are referring to have been arrested this year? The only poll your number one is America's most wanted. It's payback time, get ready for UF to do their stomping on you. Florida is going to start a new streak, you just made the Georgia game the most important game of the year for UF for a long time. Spurrier hated you guys and look how badly he used to whip on you, now you've given Meyer reason to hate you. Not too smart.

When a coach tells his team to break the rules during the game then guess what, they do the same after the game, i.e. all of your arrests. Your coach is the common denominator. better bring some KY saturday. Chomp Chomp!!!!

I hear UGA is considering changing their mascot to a Bail Bond's Man, oh never mind, coach Richt already covers that. Hmmm he did do his tutelage under old Saint Bobby. Becomes clear now...

CUtiger1.. You are incorrect.. a B average only gets you the HOPE scholarship, average UGA Freshman entrance GPA was 3.8.

October 29, 2008  09:14 AM ET

cutiger1, your comment about Clemson being far superior to UGA academically is incorrect. According to US News and World Report's 2009 list of best public universities, UGA is ranked 20th and Clemson is 22nd.
