Wannstedt suggests changes for Pitt

Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt said yesterday that there might be some lineup changes this week in the wake of the 54-34 loss Saturday to Rutgers. However, he was extremely cryptic about how many and what the changes will be. He also refused to name a starting quarterback for the game Saturday at Notre Dame (5-2). Redshirt junior Bill Stull left the loss to Rutgers with a concussion and stinger in the third quarter and was replaced by sophomore Pat Bostick. If Stull can't play, Bostick will make his first start of the season, but both quarterbacks have been made off-limits to the media this week, so Wannstedt's decision might not be known until Saturday. One thing Wannstedt made abundantly clear was that regardless of who starts, the offense will not change much.

Changes will be made? Way to go Dave. Why don't you try coaching your players. What a pathetic performance by your team.

October 29, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Maybe Wannstedt has always been a poor gameday coach, but -- and I've always given him a lot of slack because of so many other things he does so well for the team and University as well as his NCAA & NFL rings he got as a coordinator -- he has really exposed himself as a poor gameday coach during his time at Pitt. From the sideline gaffe against Ohio a few years ago to going into a shell every time he gets a lead to playing the run against Rutgers even though their only strengths on offense were their two starting wide outs. I can't bring myelf to call for a change, but I have to admit that I'd really love to see a more "modern" college coach at the helm.

At least Wannstedt has coached his team to victories over teams with winning records this season. That's more than you can say for Fat Charlie. PITT 38 ND 24 HAIL TO PITT!

Obviously you do if you took the time to read the article and post a comment. But then, what else is there to do in "Happy Valley".

If that's all you have to hang your hat on then fine.

Just watch as our WR's play long ball all day long Sat!! Hey, has Pitt even scored 38 points total this year?

Here come the IRISH!

October 30, 2008  07:28 AM ET

Through 7 games PITT has scored 201 points and Notre Dame has scored 186. And PITT has done this against teams that actually have a defense. You really should do some research before you post this stuff. PITT's 5 wins have come against teams with a combined record of 21-18. Notre Dame's 5 wins have come against teams with a combined record of 9-30. So for now I will hang my hat on that.

October 30, 2008  11:40 PM ET

How many points did they score against Bowling Green?

...isn't it a bit late to be sorting out your starting roster...

Pitt needs a change, but the 2 deep roster isn't where the change needs to occur.
