Penn State's off week is coming at just the right time for coach Joe Paterno. Paterno plans to meet with doctors this morning to have his aching right hip examined. He said during his weekly news conference yesterday that he may have to undergo surgery. Asked if that meant he planned to be back next year, Paterno said: "Have I ever said I wasn't coming back?" Penn State president Graham Spanier said last night that he and athletic director Tim Curley plan to meet with Paterno after the season to discuss Paterno's future. Paterno's contract expires after 2008. Paterno, two months shy of his 82nd birthday, has been relegated to the coaches' booth the past four games. He also has been walking with the aid of a cane and has been watching practice from a golf cart.

He'll have his hip fixed and beyond that he can do whatever he wants to do.

Can't we clone him? Have him coach another 40/50 years?

He should wait until after they get destoyed in the national championship if they even make it that far.

Nothin like a PA fan to support a ledgend! Hell, I'm an ND fan and would rather watch any Joe pa team play anybody, cause they show-up. Some years penn doesn't have the tallent, but when they do, ouch. They play the game like it should be, on the feild, knock the 'snot of um', decleating hits, and yes sometimes slower. but they sure do win....

Penn State can match up against anyone, they proved that vs OSU

He should get his hip replaced if that is what is needed, then retire. I think his assts have been running the show for some time now and Joe's #1 man should take over and officially run the program. At 82 and if he needs a hip replacement the recovery for his age group is long. Good luck. With their weak schedule I don't see them playing for the fantasy NC. Play some teams that are tough, then maybe their ranking would matter. The top 15 would have to lose for them to play in the fantasy NC.

Joepa has that look on his face b/c he just found out they were serving creamed corn AND creamed spinach for lunch!

The top 15 have to lose for PSU to make the fantasy NCG? Dammit, guess my CFB season is over and I didn't even know it. Guess I'll be relegated to watching womens volleyball, no wait a minute, is there a fantasy volleyball NCG?

Fantasy NCG, whatever!

Truth is, JoPa is already dead. What we see each is Disney Animatronics.

The glasses are to cover the eyes - getting animatronic pupils to respond correctly is rather difficult.

When those pesky animatronic legs act up, they move him to the press box.

the press hasn't yet noticed - is this surprising?
