Williams dresses as Tatum Bell for Halloween

Former Lions receiver Roy Williams, traded to Dallas earlier this month, flew back to Detroit for the Lions' Halloween party on Monday and dressed as former tailback Tatum Bell. Bell was involved in a war of words with Rudi Johnson, who took his roster spot in September, over a missing piece of luggage. Johnson accused Bell of stealing his bag from the Lions' locker room. Bell said it was an honest mistake. The prominent underwear in Williams' costume is a reference to the fact that Johnson's underwear was among the items missing from the bag when it was returned to Lions headquarters. The rest of the ensemble is a bellhop's get-up with a name tag that says his name is "T. Bell." Williams told the crowd at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth that he got permission from Bell to wear the costume. Still, Williams didn't even win the costume contest. Receiver John Standeford triumphed with his Michael Phelps impersonation.

Man I miss Roy already :( Good Luck in Dallas!!!!

Here it is, I was looking for the Dallas T&R!

October 29, 2008  07:21 AM ET

What a great sense of humor!!! At least he did it the proper way and asked permission first! Class Act all around! I love this guy already...I'm so glad we got him!

October 29, 2008  07:24 AM ET

That's a pretty funny costume but not as funny as Jon Kitna's wife (who looks like a man) dressing as the Wendys girl and Kitna as Coach Joe Cullen last year.

Yeah I laughed at that one too...The Lions' annual Halloween costume thing is becoming quite the event! Every year they are making sports pages with their players costume choices..At least their having some fun off the field, I guess :) Makes the season a little less grim for these guys.

You guys are happy that a player you just traded for mid-season and who is still learning the playbook took time off for a costume party with a big divisional game coming up? Ok...

Oh lighten up. Good GAWD, it was a costume party. He had 5 years with those guys. 5 bad bad years. He's got an emotional tie to them and that is totally understandable.

No doubt he got permission to go and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure he was back to work first thing Tuesday morning....In fact, the Boyz' are off on Tuesday's anyway.

Good Lord, he was probably gone less than 24 hours. And it shows the guys character in respect to his former team. They welcomed him back with no problems.

Are players not allowed a few hours to celebrate and have some fun on "holidays"? Man, I didn't realize you trade your soul to be an NFL player.

BigBlueNJ does not have fun, its all work for him.

Too bad for him.

By the way, I wonder, if this was a charity event, would he have said the same thing? Probably not.

T.O. dressed up Monday night for a radio show as Spiderman! Michael Irvin was talking about the event on his radio show yesterday and said Romo crashed it dressed as "Seasons"? Whatever that means I have no ideaA bunch of other Cowboys were there all dressed up too. These guys are just having some Halloween fun like the rest of the human population. Give them a break!!

In other news Nick Kaczur dresses as Tatum O'Neal for Halloween.

Spiderman? Ha! I wish I could have seen that. I have no idea what Seasons is. What radio show was this?

October 29, 2008  08:11 AM ET

There was a photo of his costume in the free press yesterday, very funny. not all players would come back to hang out with their old team, not even for a charity event. always liked roy, you guys will learn to like him in dalllas too.

I normally don't listen to his show, but my fave sports radio show was on a commercial break and since I was in the car, I flipped over to ESPN radio, Dallas, and Michael Irvin has his own show from 11am-2pm daily. It is hard to listen to in my opinion, mainly because of his sidekick Kevin Kiley, but whatever. Poor Mike doesn't know much about any other sport than Football so he has hired voice coaches and consultants to try and make him better for radio. I do hope he succeeds, but he's up against our strongest station, The Ticket 1310 and they are very difficult to beat!

I saw it...Too funny!!! That Michael Phelps dress up was hysterical!! I can see why he won, looks just like him!!

I read some of the comments underneath by the readers and man, some of those "fans" are bitter. It was tough to read.

Someone should dress up as a pizza delivery guy with his pockets hanging out

I love Roy Williams, since he was a sophomore with UT. I was very happy when I learned the Cowboys traded for him.

I agree. Roy Williams, Witten, Barber, F. Jones, and Romo should be a nice group for years to come.
