Putz, Street on Mets' radar?
Francisco Rodriguez's agent will be at the general managers' meetings next week in Dana Point, Calif., and the representative for Brian Fuentes likely will be there, too. The Mets have little to lose by meeting with both in their search for Billy Wagner's replacement. But the Mets, wary of the high price of the relievers, also will explore other avenues to reach their goal. They believe they have a deep enough farm system to trade prospects for a reliever, if the right scenario presents itself. The obvious candidates are Seattle's J.J. Putz and Oakland's Huston Street. Other possibilities include Baltimore's George Sherrill, Kansas City's Joakim Soria and Florida's Kevin Gregg.

I'm no urologist, but it seems to me they're trying to surround Santana with as many putzes as possible.

Going to have to agree with that one. Mets will be looking at anyone and everyone because reality is that person has to be better than the guys they had in their pen this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought Armando Benitez back. Yeah he choked in pressure situations but he did close out the easy games which is more then the Mets pen did this year where they blew all games no matter how important or non important the game was.

As though they haven't already.Guy would've been a 20 winner if it wasn't for the damn bullpen.I'll pitch for them.

Yeah Santana had at least 4 or 5 games where he left with a lead only to have the pen piss the game away. He will get votes in the CY Young race but the Mets bullpen effectively cost him a 20 win season and a real shot at a CY Young. And any of those 4 or 5 games that he would win would have sent the Mets to the playoffs.

Actually a good PR move would be for the Mets to hold open tryouts in February for relievers. You have people pay a $25 application fee, they fill out some paperwork (legal waivers) and you let them pitch. You pick a few who might be worthwhile and have the team doctors examine them and then you sign 1 or 2 of them to a contract. You do this before they have an agent since you could probably get them for $500K each. And then use half the money collected from the application fees and donate it to charity. The Mets get the good PR and a few relieveres for cheap and everyone wins.

I think it's pretty much a done deal, at least I hope it is. I agree with you, this feels awkward at best (the conclusion of the WS).

Their bullpen was attrocious, they need to sign a couple relievers at least, they need to explore all avenues.
