USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian turned down the chance to coach the Oakland Raiders two years ago, saying at the time that he wanted to become a college head coach. With Washington Coach Tyrone Willingham fired, effective at the end of the season, Sarkisian said he would be interested in the Huskies' job if school representatives contacted him.

What has he accomplished? The offense has gone down hill since Norm Chow left.

Right! if I was looking for a head coach I'd go after Norm Chow!!

Anyone remember Sarkisian at BYU....man, that guy had an arm!!!

October 29, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Somebody, anybody, remind this guy, tell him that he's at Tailback U., not BYU!!! His play calling has been horrible at times, more often than not.

Agreed. Kiffin and Sarkisian are by products of Norm Chow. If you want the genuine article then it's Norm you need.

It's about damn time that these President's and Athletic Director's get past whatever bias they have towards Norm Chow and hire him. The guy knows offense, and Washington needs offense badly.

dude could throw a football across salt lake!

yeah but the receiver play at USC has been a bit shaky since steve smith left, i dont know if its sarki's fault. i like petersen from Boise to coach Washington but he'll never do it. Sarkisian needs to stay and coach the QBs

His play calling SUCKS... And he drives me crazy at times. Trying to get Sanchez drafted or something. If he only ran the ball he would take the pressure off of Sanchez. Stafon had an amazing game and he took him out replaced him with CJ and screwed the momentum up. To be honest I never liked Kiffin's play calling either. Both are too pass happy. Chow managed to balance the run/pass perfectly.

Yeah .... what a step uhhm ... ??? ... for Chow .... asst. to Rick freakin Neuheisel
he should be calling UW instead of waiting for them to call him

October 29, 2008  02:38 PM ET

If he's that bad, why did Pete hire him in the first place? And if he really is that bad, why doesn't Petey take over the play calling duties?

October 29, 2008  02:53 PM ET

And why would you leave multiple opportunities for National Championships for....ummmm...NEVER!

October 29, 2008  04:55 PM ET

Between the two of them, Kiffkin would have the inside track, as he's been a head coach and he's not currently at USC. Why would he want the job? Anyone wants to advance in their career; it's not like Pete Carroll is going to give up his head coaching job anytime soon. If I were UW, I'd go for an alumni or someone with connections to the program. Since Pinkel likely won't leave MO for this job, that leave the other former James assistant on their staff, Dave Christensen. I agree that Chris Peterson has no incentive to leave Boise, other than money (for facilities, etc., not salary), and the Huskies (while Pac 10 and BCS) aren't quite enough of a jump. I can think he'd prefer to move the Broncos to Mountain West and have that conference replace the ACC or Big East as the 6th automatic bid conference. Supposedly, the UW big wigs want the Texas defensive coordinator Muschamp. Not sure why they think he'd be that interested to leave Texas for UW, tho.

October 29, 2008  05:12 PM ET

I beleive the USC Trojans, (PETE) will lobby for Norm to go to UW over Kif or Sark. Putting Norm closer to the northpole so to speak and out of the SC's recruiting backyard. But I think Norm will stay put for at least one more season at UCLA, he has a home here, and then maybe look at a power school oportunity, not just any opening this year. UW has bigger problems than just getting a coach, location, location, location. Peterson at Boise, on the other hand, could see this as a move up and more exposer.

Don't let the door hit ya where the dog shoulda bit ya'!

October 29, 2008  10:09 PM ET

No way on earth Sark gets a wiff of that job. UW is looking to SERIOUSLY re-establish themselves as a national power and there are several better options out there for them to consider. They also have a boat-load of money to wave around so they'll have plenty of suitors

October 30, 2008  02:51 AM ET

This must be a joke, and where did you guys find that picture? The expression on his face looks like he just realize he forgot to put his pants on before leaving the locker room. Kiffin and Sark both completely suck. I don't know why Carroll kept such young and inexperienced OC's/QB coaches. I mean Pete was responsible for bringing Chow in to begin with, couldn't he find ANYONE with decades of experience who would love to procure Heisman-caliber talent, rather than having coaches who ride the talent's coat-tails? Maybe when Steve Spurrier gets fired from South Carolina he can get a job with a real team, and get Pete's coffee for him. Lots of sugar, lots of cream.

October 30, 2008  05:02 AM ET

Just because one has a good arm doesn't mean he will be a good coach. Washington needs someone there who will rebuild the program from the dirt it has been buried in for the past few years. Let Carroll go up there and try. If he is such a great coach, then he shouldn't have any problems getting them back up to #1 in a couple of years. Being able to turn down players who want to play for you because you have better players is a luxury few coaches have these days. Would you rather play in sunny CA or cold, wet, windy WA? But, if he is so great maybe some of these players and their dads and moms wouldn't mind playing up there.

Speaking of U$C--Will another 5 years pass before the NCAA actually does something about the Highest paid College Football players in history? Or will they just continue to flip the dusty pages of evidence, pretend to be interested, mumble something stupid about this alleged "continuing investigation" and hand U$C their yearly blanket Waiver to NCAA rules? Yes the rules that honest programs abide by. Maybe they will at least establish a Salary cap for U$C recruits.

Five years will pass and people like you will still be repeating the same old saw. When you get out of high school, go to a good college, major in Law, and go investigate your little heart out.
