Phillies GM Pat Gillick, who has been hinting that he would be retiring at the end of this season, appeared to have second thoughts after winning his third career World Series after last night's 4-3 victory over the Rays. His first two titles were with Toronto. Gillick said he is not prepared to make a decision regarding his retirement. "Let's focus on tonight," he said. "We'll worry about tomorrow tomorrow."

You just won the "big dance" and it's time to retire, but stay on as a consultant.

Leave on top.

Do what you want. Thank you thank you thank you..... Philly is rocking!!!!

October 30, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Geez, can you let them enjoy their title for two seconds before talking about this stuff? Bad enough they'll be whining again about how the refs in every sport are out to get their teams within a few days.

I think it's natural to have second thoughts during the euphoria of a Championship celebration, but I'm sure when that subsides, he'll go ahead and retire.....and walk away on top.

thanks to many of the other fans for showing their utmost respects and for our overdue congratulations, i will be sure to congratulate all of yous when your teams win unless your cowboys or mets fans, sorry the only two teams i despise without a doubt! and last but not least thanks to the phillies ive waited 21 years for this since the day i was born! thank you thank you thank you, now when i die i can now say i witnessed a championship in philly! THANK YOU!!! CAN YOU SAY REPEAT?! lol i hope so lets enjoy this first b4 we think about next year...

The Phillies won this whole series based on umpires who are apparently blind and who blew calls...balk by Hamels, Rollins 6 feet off the base and called safe, Werth running on the infield grass while trying to steal second, Utley not called out on strike 3 and then hits a 2 run homerun. Philadelphia fans are barbaric (assualting police officers, forcing the mayor to tell the citizens of the city of brotherly love not to act like jackasses) and don't deserve this championship!!!! and YES I am a Mets fan but no I'm not jealous (after all NY is still the home of the Lombardi Trophy)!!!

Stop drinking that haterade...Yes you're a mets fan and yes you're jealous and yes you're bitter just like your team. There were bad calls on both ends. Bodelli strike 3 call that he was sent to 1st. Rollins getting hit by a pitch and the ump never "saw" it. It went both ways.... Do me a favor...while you're drinking haterade....try not to choke like your team. Once is a mistake but 2ice is a habit..

PHILLIES WORLD CHAMPS!!!

Hey Philadelphian why dont you go throw another open mustard packet at a helpless 7 year old girl rooting for her granfather..or better yet go assault more police officers while "celebrating" your big win. Bad calls were on both sides yes, but your Phillies caught most of the breaks. Did the Mets choke yea...but after only 2 World Series wins in 125 years it sounds like "Haterade" is the drink of Philadelphia fans of all sports!! I like your team, it's got gritty players who know how to win which is something clearly the Mets don't have but that doesn't make me jealous of your team winning...I just hate you Philadelphia fans and you don't deserve a championship!! All I know is Mayor Bloomberg or Gulliani or Koch never had to warn New Yorkers "Don't be a jackass!"atthe victory parade. I also love how your boy J-Roll hates the Mets that much he has to incorporate the chokers into his speech to the Philadelphia "faithful"! hey it's almost Christmas don't you have to go boo Santa or something!

Also Philadelphian you should know if Wagner was healthy or the Mets had any kind of a respectable bullpen the Mets would have won the division the last 2 years!!
