No-huddle offense benefits Clausen
Notre Dame's offense was one of the worst in NCAA Division I last season and didn't get off to a great start this season. The Irish needed a late rally to beat San Diego State, 21-13, in their opener, and scored only seven points in a loss to Michigan State. Even though they had scored 35 points in a win against Michigan in their second game, they still had only 260 total yards. The Irish benefited from six Wolverines turnovers. But an interesting thing has happened since that rough start: The Irish (5-2) have become a good offensive team that continues to show improvement almost every week. One reason for the recent success is that Notre Dame has relied more on a wide open, no-huddle offense and taken advantage of the mismatches their athletic receivers create. That success coincides with the steady improvement of sophomore quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who is showing signs that the hype that preceded his arrival at Notre Dame was justified. Clausen was ranked by many scouting services as the No. 1 player in the class of 2007. A large part of Clausen's success is a matter of gaining experience and maturing. But beyond that Clausen and the Irish have greatly benefited from the no-huddle offense, which they began using late in the Michigan State game. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said the no-huddle has been effective for the Irish. It is a bad matchup for certain defenses because of how quickly the Irish can get in and out of plays.

Who again did they play against? Let's wait until next year as it is "to little to late" as of this moment. They may (probably will.....they're owned and operated by the Pope) go to a bowl game of some description, but then again, I'm not Catholic (who cares).

Got to admit it but Jimmy does have the goods. He has looked well so far and the Irish passing game is pretty good. If they could develop a running game to go along with Clausen, this might be a team to talk about next year.

Agreed J. Hova. They have a long way to go to complete with the "elite" of college football but they do appear to be going in the right direction.

Hmmmm, not sure I see that much improvement....I do see a very weak sked has allowed them to score some points, but so far when they play decent teams, they don't look very good at all. Time will tell.

OH!! don't forget you barely fighting irish fans.. the record is in sight!!! in the "return to glory year" of 2006, 3 of your 9 wins came against fball teams who's coach was either already fired or was fired at seasons end (MSU, UNC and Stanford). This year.. we have Washington and obviously Syracuse.. who will be the third coach to get sh%tcanned and tie this record!!? I say it will be Joe Tiller!!!!
How does the Commander-in-chief trophy look in the trophy case??? HAAAHAAHHAAAA!!!!

Clausen didn't look super hot against Washington, but the team is looking better and better. The 11 true freshmen playing as of now are maturing each week.
It finally looks as though the coaching staff is doing a good job of preparing the players each week to succeed.
Oh...and for "that guy" who always seems to post how fat Charlie is....Boom. Stole your thunder.
"They run the No huddle because Clausen is afraid Charlie is going to Eat him between plays..."

As someone who really dislikes Notre Shame, I am glad that the team has started to play well now that Weis no longer calls the O plays. It's what the team needed because Weis can not coach. Mike Haywood is doing a great job and the D is benefiting from Tenuta. Can't wait until UM shakes off the ND virus that the wolverines caught and battle ND.
AGain, glad to see ND start their come back since 1993.

I too enjoy the rivalry of Notre Dame and Michigan. But I doubt Michigan will be "ready" next year. Where will the be at on the QB front? Rodriguez won't have the personnel...
Unless they use McGuffie in a "wild wolverine" set up...

brady quinn didn't seem to have a problem when charlie was calling the plays. dont say stupid things you cant possibly justify, such as "charlie cannot coach." I would say charlie cant coach the defense, because he knows nothing about defense, but he seems to know an awful lot about offense. and if you have been playing close attention, which I know you havent, it is widely known Charlie has "a hand" in the play calls.

was your HC not a major part in the Spygate scandal (he was the OC getting the stolen D signals and then making the calls for the O)- in which the Patriots were severely reprimanded by the league??
was your program bared from using a laptop in the pressbox??
yes to both questions
