Royals swapping Nunez for Jacobs

The Marlins are closing in on a deal with Kansas City in which first baseman Mike Jacobs would be traded to the Royals for right-handed reliever Leo Nunez. With the World Series complete, the deal could be announced within the next few days. Jacobs, who hit 32 home runs for the Marlins last season, has been on the trading block ever since the season ended. He is expected to command at least $3 million through salary arbitration. The Marlins could replace Jacobs at first with either rookie Gaby Sanchez or, if they hold onto him, Jorge Cantu.

I'm not breathing again until it's official!!

that's all it takes to get a young cheap 1B who hit 30+ homers?

Another barn-burner of a Royals story. I wonder if they delegate these to the interns ...

The Marlins need relief pitching and hopefully this will help them out. I also am hoping the Marlins retain the service of Jorge Cantu....that guy is a beast...

P.S. To all the haters......just because it is not the Yankees or Red Sox does not mean it's not news.....

Seems like a trade that favors the Royals.

If they trade Jacobs, I think the Marlins could use Chris Duncan as their first baseman, so they should look into a trade with the Cards.

what would make this more interesting if the teams added in some bonuses like a award winning fair pig or a bushel of corn or the year's biggest pumpkin....

Good point TenRingsSTL......you would think that the Marlins could get more for a 30+ homer guy than just a relief pitcher.

What a steal for the Royals

Florida traded Jacobs because they have Gaby Sanchez ready to take over. He will hit for a much higher average and play better defense. The power will come a few years later. Someone correct me if you know more about the Marlins organization, but I think Sanchez is a similar player to Derrek Lee. Also, Jacobs was cheap this year, but he is arbitration eligible and set to earn 3+ million next year, so the Marlins are in a hurry to dump him. Now look for KC to trade two or three of their other first-basemen for a right-handed impact hitter. With Jacobs, Teahen, Gordon, and DeJesus, they have plenty of lefties. All they have from the right side is Guillen (20 HR).
