Will Ferrell in another USC stunt

USC football practices sometimes attract actors and other entertainment personalities, but Thursday saw the biggest Hollywood production of the Pete Carroll era. A stuntman fell from a platform, another ran across the field on fire. Both were "saved" by actor Will Ferrell, who wore a mask, half an Ironman costume and a Speedo-style swimsuit as Captain Compete. Thursday's stunt began as the Trojans gathered after their final drill. Offensive line coach Pat Ruel began yelling at a man atop a mechanical lift used for filming practice. The man fell from the lift, on the street outside a fence that surrounds Howard Jones Field, and landed on a cushion out of view of those attending practice. A few seconds later, Ferrell burst through the gate carrying the unhurt man. As Ferrell addressed players, most of whom were laughing, another man emerged from behind the end zone engulfed in flames. After the flames were put out, Ferrell doused the man with water.

Um so, this was designed to accomplish what exactly?

October 31, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Thats good. Very creative. At Oregon State they just have a dummy dressed in a USC uniform bent over and all the players kick it in the butt on the way to the locker room after practice.

Maybe they should concentrate on their offensive weaknesses instead of joking around but whatever makes you continue to play poorly works well for the non-USC fans.

There really is something "sick" about all this...

and this is on truth and rumors why

Well, Farrell's last flick sucked worse at the box office than a USC song girl. Maybe this is his next creative outlet?

October 31, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Screw USC, but Will Farrell is genius

October 31, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Maybe this helped keep the team in good spirits?

It does seem kinda weird.

Hollywood and Sports have never really made good bedfellows.

Priceless-NOT

Moronic adolescent humor from the current king of such, for the entertainment of this years' most underachieving Div 1 football squad.

Oh yeah, Go Bucks! Looking forward to revisiting SC in Pasadena.

It's good to get a laugh now and then. Sounded funny to me. Just Good ole fun.

I agree with your God Bless America and our Troops comment but "faking" two individuals violent deaths is not "just good ole fun!" Why doesn't Will just go back to the standard "pull my finger." Now THAT is funny!

Pete Carrol is just keeping the team loose.

October 31, 2008  01:15 PM ET

Hello Gariboy,

It is Halloween season and the pranks were in line with that, I bet everyone laughed after
they knew what was going on.
PULL MY FINGER.... Now that IS funny, have a great weekend.
God Bless America and our Troops..

Geez. And Singletary gets grief about dropping his drawers in a half time shake down of his team?

Says the Buckeye fan with the senior-laden team...that's even funnier than what Pete Carroll pulled off.

Why can't you USC bashers be as funny as this guy?

This was actually intelligent and genuinely funny.

Good call, silars. A 6-1 record with a 30 ppg margin of victory over a top-10 schedule is underachieving? I guess the bar is set pretty high.

Actually, no one died or were implied to die...this year. Unless you're thinking of last year?

You do realize this is Halloween this time of year? You know...zombies...bleeding eye sockets...Saw MCMII... get with the season already :).

Man, you guys are depressing! This is awesome and reminds all of us how fun the game is and how great it is to laugh at something ridiculous like this. Honestly, how can you not love this?
