Texas Tech's Leach looking to get out?

Coach Mike Leach and the Huskies? Don't laugh. Word on the street is Leach is ready to get out of Texas Tech and would be highly interested in the UW job. The bigger issue is whether Washington would be interested in him. Its last experience with sort of a nontraditional coach got them a sweater-vest-wearing, job-coveting, NCAA-pool-playing guy, five weeks in a courtroom and the loss of a couple of million bucks for it.

UW should beg Leach to go to Seattle, are you kidding? He'd turn that program around in a heartbeat.

That'd be great to get him up there... and out of the big XII

October 31, 2008  11:11 AM ET

He can come to Tennessee, I hear we're going to have an opening soon!

Have you been to Lubbock?? You'd want out too...

Brutal but true!

Leach should go anywhere he wants. He's a good coach and I think programs are going to come calling for his services.

Mike Leach has no black marks on his resume. He has proven to be a cutting edge coach. Everyone sneered at his offense - now everyone is using it. There should be a bidding war for his services if he is ready to leave TT.

One, Leach has taken many years to get Tech where they are today and where is that exactly? The third or fourth best team in the Big 12 south. What he has accomplished has been interesting and with a win on Saturday, he might finally begin a short term ascendancy into being a three or four year productive coach at a division 1 school.

Washington would be a step down and the truth is the Pac 10 is on its way to a long slide down with the exception of USC and possibly one other school per year for the foreseeable future.

As for the Vol fan being interested in Leach, Fulmer is a class act, and it may very well be time for him to move along, but man is it ever tacky that he is being dumped on after all that he has committed to U of T because of a couple of down years. You don't want Leach....not at Tennessee. He has offensive wisdom in a defensive conference, and if he can't be competitive with his high powered offense in the Big 12, he will get laughed out of the SEC.

"Word on the street" ? I think this was made up by the person that wrote this article. Leach's name comes up for open coaching jobs every year. His name simply comes up by the media, and there is never any truth to any of it. He was rumored to be interviewing for the Miami job 2 years ago and when he was asked about it, he said he had spoken to nobody about it. It's comical how these rumors stir up the media.

Fulmer is a class act? The guy has looked the other way when his players have been arrested and failed drug tests for over a decade. He has as little discipline as any coach I have ever seen and the thugs arent playing like they used to so the UT fans arent so keen on having a criminal team that also loses.

Leach isnt gonna go anywhere

October 31, 2008  01:02 PM ET

he is gonna beat Texas win the big12 and play for the national championship

October 31, 2008  01:03 PM ET

did i just say that

If little bobby stoops doesnt fire his defensive coordinator and get a grip Leach might could come back to Norman.

October 31, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Clemson wouldn't mind Leach

Yeah, let him come to UT, so the Tide can whoop on UT some more. We played that vaunted TT offense a few years ago. They scored 10 points.

Better hope Tech plays Penn State then. I was in the Cotton Bowl last time Tech played Bama. Offense looked like a high school offense that day.

Come on Tider5, in the interest of full disclosure Bama only scored 13 in that game and that was with a dead duck field goal in the last 5 seconds.

October 31, 2008  03:29 PM ET

Yeah, its not surprising he would want to get out. It is amazing any Texas school not located in Austin could even hold on to a coach. If New Jersey is the arm pit of the United States, Texas and Oklahoma are where you stick the enema.

This would be a great move for Leach... Who the hell would choose Lubbock, Texas over one of the most intelligent, in-perspective areas of the country like the Northwest for a long-time tenure? Plus, there's no where to go but down for Tech in years to come and nowhere to go but up (to second place behind USC) in the Pac-10. If this is true, it's a no-brainer.
