Free agents likely to bolt D-Backs

Free agents aren't allowed to sign with other teams for another two weeks, but on the first day of the filing period, there was a sense that several of the Diamondbacks' free agents are already gone. Two of the Diamondbacks' seven potential free agents, reliever Juan Cruz and infielder David Eckstein, were among the 65 major-league players who filed for free agency Thursday. Two of the Diamondbacks' highest-profile free agents, second baseman Orlando Hudson and slugger Adam Dunn, have not yet filed, but the club doesn't seem to be holding out much hope of retaining either. Once he files, Hudson will be the top second baseman on the market, and the Diamondbacks sound as if they expect him to seek top dollar.

Scarlet Fever?

sign Hudson and package Cano with some of our pitching "prospects" for a centerfielder or a first baseman. Colorado has a left fielder and a centerfielder "available". Holliday is a dependable fielder with a decent bat even away from Coors field. You can expect about 100 rbi, 100 runs and maybe 20 plus HRs from his bat. Spilsburgh (spelling?) is a very good centerfielder who hasn't played fulltime yet but shows some pop with gap power. I just don't know if they need a second basemen but Kennedy would probably be a real good fit for them. he throws ground balls and no pressure in Coors field to perform like the fans in the Stadium demand.

Thats not a bad idea. With Cano and one of the sure shot pitching prospects, you might be able to trade with the Venezualan pro league for Andres Gallaraga.

Sorry, had to.

October 31, 2008  09:06 AM ET

I hate tuneups. You pay $1540 for them to "check this" and "check that" and then they find another four hundred dollars worth of stuff to do.

thats similar to the proverbial "body cavity search" sans lube.

hahaha whoops! that should read "you pay $150..." if I was paying over a grand for a tuneup I would request that one of you fine gentlemen club me to death with a polo mallet!

I was curious about that original figure. My tuneup was 240 and change. As long as the old check engine light stays off and the car works relatively smoorthly and the cd player and radio and heater all work then i am happy.
