Mariners mum on Griffey return
The Seattle Mariners can have Ken Griffey Jr. back if they want him, now that he's a free agent. New Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik refused to say whether Seattle will make a push to sign its former franchise center fielder who is still beloved in the Northwest. That was hours after the Chicago White Sox made Griffey a free agent -- and free for a potential return to the team with which he said two years ago he would like to retire. "We can't comment on any specific free agent at this time," Zduriencik said Thursday afternoon through a Mariners spokesman in an e-mail to The Associated Press. The White Sox declined Griffey's $16.5 million contract option for 2009. Griffey will get a $4 million buyout to complete a $116.5 million, nine-year contract he agreed to with his hometown Cincinnati Reds before the 2000 season -- after he demanded a trade from Seattle.

no... They will go for someone else. I just don't think he would play in NYC, or Boston for that matter. He'll go to Seattle. The words: "We can't comment on any specific free agent at this time," Zduriencik said Thursday afternoon: Pretty much say they are trying like **** to get him. He was popular in Seattle before he demanded the trade, and even now, the fans love him. He isnt the answer to their baseball woes, but he will sell tickets for a couple of years.

Ah, let him DH in Seattle. It would make for a heartwarming story, and he win't make them suck any more than they already do.

They would be better off letting this shell of Griffey stand outside the gates and let the kiddies climb on him and the bums use him for their personal urinal.

If the Yankees sign him, he could stand in left field and let Manny use him as his personal urinal. That's good theatre.

As a life-long Cincy Reds fan, I can say that I would love for him to finish out his career in Seattle.
I hope they sign him to a two-year deal and let him DH.
Then he can retire and walk on in to the HOF.

Sounds like a perfect reason to me, their new motto can be: "hey we STILL suck but we got Griffey back!"
He should retire as a Mariner.

I would like to see him in Tampa. I said that before they traded him to the White Sox but he's a guy who lives in Sarasota and he could contribute to what is obviously a good young team.

He'll get picked up, doubt it will be a full time role though. Dh with a side of limited right field action sounds about right.
