Clemens case may heat up soon

Roger Clemens will soon know if the ten-month-old defamation lawsuit that threw his personal life into turmoil will proceed to its potentially explosive next phase. U.S. District Court judge Keith Ellison has scheduled a hearing on the defamation case Clemens filed in January against his trainer Brian McNamee, who accused the pitcher of using performance-enhancing drugs in the Mitchell Report. Lawyers for both sides will be in Ellison's courtroom in Houston on Monday morning - the first movement in the case since mid-summer, when McNamee attorney Richard Emery filed a motion to dismiss the case - for oral arguments. If Ellison allows the case to proceed, it will soon move into the discovery phase, where subpoenas for deposition are likely to fly fast and furious, possibly leading to ever more unseemly revelations about Clemens' private life.

Go away Clemens

November 1, 2008  09:09 AM ET

For his own good, he should go away. For our enjoyment he should fight this thing out.

Who cares?

Either he is the most stubborn guy in the world or he has the dumbest team of lawyers in the world. There is no way he can win this case. And I hope when the judge rules against him he orders Clemens to pay MacNamee's legal fees.

There should be a special prison for sports guys who have it all, then defecate all over their sport and society.

"D" Block would include Clemens, O.J., Vick, Rose, Pacman, Canseco and Bonds.

Instead of making license plates, they should have to build Little League fields in the inner cities and Appalachia. Try living on mac & cheese and Kool Aid. Wear discards from the Salvation Army. Have no health insurance.

Make Jim Brown the warden...

this idea has merit... maybe needs a little tweaking but lots of merit.

Pete Rose? Seriously? You lump him with those who took enhancing drugs and were criminal malcontents in public? As for the rest of your rant, well sure club fed 'em and have sporting contests. Of course the Aryan brotherhood will shank Vick after he lights up their team, but it'll be an ironic justice served.

What up Joe?

November 1, 2008  03:38 PM ET

Clemens isn't too bright. The Mitchell report didn't just take one guys word for it. They talked to others and even the supplier. Plus didn't his "best" friend Petitte confirm he did steroids with him. I think there is too much evidence. It's always hard to prove you didn't do something. He must be "misremembering" the talk he had with Congress.

November 1, 2008  03:50 PM ET

Wasting Taxpayers money worry about if Clemens had taken Steroids or should I say lied to the FED's(CONGRESS)...PLEASE president BUSH is the BIGGEST LIER ON EARTH with the MASS DESTRUCTION Lie and the ANTHRAX lie to cause the IRAQI WAR shouldn't he be in JAIL before Marion Jones, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens

November 1, 2008  03:54 PM ET

IF they Cheated than the COMMISIONER of baseball or other SPORTS should take away all of tTHEIR achievements or endorsements the Goverment (FED's or CONGRESS) shouldn't be worrying ABOUT who had taken STEROIDS or NOT
