Yankees may pass on Teixeira chase

It's the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes - not a shocker, when you consider he could wind up with the most money this winter. More than anything, it speaks to both the clubs that figure to be in his competition for his services and the person running the auction. "That's going to be phenomenal," said an official from a club that will not be signing Teixeira. "The Angels, Red Sox and Yankees fighting for him, with Scott Boras as the ringleader." What will ultimately decide this is the level of restraint exhibited by the Yankees and Red Sox. The Angels want Teixeira back, after they employed him for a two-month trial run. They've made that clear. Owner Arte Moreno isn't afraid to spend. It would be a shocker if the Yankees paid Teixeira the 10 years and $200 million that Boras will request.

Every GM knows before you sign any player today
1.Check to see how many homes the player has .
2.Check to see if he making timely payments ...

look for leverage and learn FROM what is happening to movie stars and music entertainers...
(The way perhaps many icons of sport see themselves ...is there really a difference)

Teixeira, Pedroia, & Youk in one infield. Killer.

No more platoons.
no more guys that play positions they can't
with a 200 mil payroll.....

C'mon...anyone who thinks the Yankees won't pony up the big bucks for Tex is outta their minds...It'll be between the Angels and Yankees. Unfortunately, I see him wearing the pinstripes.

Nah-
Youk is a really good player and CLUTCH
Tex is obviously top notch....but he tends to be more
Arod-like at times......I'd rather stick with Youk

ESPECIALLY for the $$$ they'd have to pay
Not a major upgrade

Saying the Yankees won't get in on the bidding for Teixiera is like saying that McCain is gonna beat the crap out of Obama Tuesday. It's possible, but only for those with a crackpipe to their lips.

November 1, 2008  11:11 PM ET

200 mil for 10 yrs that stupid contract...

November 2, 2008  12:21 AM ET

Can you imagine what Mays, Arron or Mantle would get in todays market

November 2, 2008  01:13 AM ET

he worth about...... $12-15 mil per........ over 6-8 yrs

November 2, 2008  11:50 AM ET

they r better off using that $ 4 burnett, k-rod, n cc. wat they should do is put nady there n trade 4 mcclouth (like getting rid of rasner, ponson, igawa, betemit....whoever is still on the team that is practically expendable).
n btw 4get manny. bring back abreu, n have damon in lf, abreu in rf, n mcclouth in cf which means that gardner n cabrera will b up their butts making it a competetive of
