Marbury's future decided soon?
Stephon Marbury's future in New York could be resolved as early as Wednesday, pending the outcome of his much-anticipated meeting with Knicks president Donnie Walsh. "I want to talk to both Mike (D'Antoni) and Stephon and see where this is going to go," Walsh said Sunday night. "Because I'm unclear like everybody." Walsh plans to talk with Marbury Monday to discuss his status with the club. There is a possibility that the subject of a buyout will be broached, or the Knicks might ask Marbury to stay away from the team while they attempt to trade him. The latter seems unlikely since Walsh admitted that there aren't "a lot of options" in regards to a trade for the veteran point guard, who will make $21.9 million this year.

actually there aren't any options at all. imagine 21.9mil in a year for starbury, that's just not right for any team.

Since they're stuck with him and can't trade his huge contract, they may as well use him.
Every team needs a couple players to fill in during garbage time, when a game is already decided as a blow-out win or loss before the 4th quarter.
Marbury is that player.
When the "real" players need to rest, Marbury can come in for those spells, so that they can rest and avoid injury.

yeah make him the human victory cigar, ( won't be used much ) or the white towel being throw in to admit defeat ( More likely ). Lets see how long till he blows his top.

well, for me
it's simple: they don't want him
the hard: nobody else wants ($21.9, no thanks).

I'm not a fan of Steph but I don't understand why you would pay him that kind of money to sit on the bench when he is clearly the best PG on the team. Duhon is avg like 30+ mins a game it isn't doing anything. Let Steph play this year and then walk away. As a Knicks fan I'm used to the the Knicks doing crazy things but it seems like D'Antonio would rather lose and write this year off than at least compete.

This is a mess and Marbury is making it more difficult. NY wants to trade him but their are no takers. NY wants to buy out his contract but he doesn't want to be bought out. He is making it difficult for everybody including himself. Let them buy you out and go wherever you want to go. He is just being difficult. NY needs to just ban him and suspend him w/out pay for reason of "detrimental to the team".

I don't understand why you are all so confused.....
We CAN'T trade him & management DOESN'T WANT him
he is DONE as a knick- not in their plans
D'A actually SPOKE TO him about his PT and they MUTUALLY
agreed that he would rather be inactive sitting on the bench
than play only 8 minutes of garbage time.....
- even though it seems crazy- AT THIS POINT it is actually
the best option for Steph- who from all accounts has
not made any waves.
Duhon AND Collins both SUCK
that being said- it's IRRELEVANT-
the knicks - rightly so- don't care about winning this year
anyone who expects them to win is FOOLISH
- we should though expect EFFORT & IMPROVEMENT

The only solution to the problem is a buyout. Keeping him around serves no purpose. It makes no sense to keep him around if they don't intend to use him. Stephon has already become a distraction. "Thanks for stopping by. We have some lovely parting gifts for you."

Is anyone confident this franchise is heading in the right direction with Donnie Walsh anymore than it was with Isiah Thomas?

Marbury I say do exactly what you are doing. You are honoring your contract and if they don't want to play you so be it. I only wish I had the skills to get a 22M contract but I don't.

Absolutely not. The only thing that has changed is Isiah's character issues. Walsh hasn't done anything that makes the Knicks a better basketball team.

They cannot trade him. Even if there are teams out there who could use them (and I believe that Miami, Golden State, and possibly Denver could use him) they aren't going to risk trading for him.
The only way Walsh gets rid of Steph is by buying him out. I know he doesn't want to do that, but he has no choice.

Well they need to do something because the entire situation has become a distraction to the rest of the team. They either need to trade Marbury (very unlikely), buy him out or play him.

It is going to take 2 years to clean up isiah's mess; Not an easy task; Mike can only do so much .
Search and look back at the videos of isiah's glees for "the opportunity" to sign a player of "Marbury's calibre"..........And talents like Steve Francis don't come along every day.
Sorry state this.

Yeah it is going to take a long time to clean up the mess the Knicks are in. While I agree Marbury is not in their future plans the fact is that being paid $22M he is in their current plans. Benching him has caused a major distraction for the team so they need to work to settle this by either buying him out or playing him.
