Sveum staying with Brewers

Dale Sveum will be back on the Milwaukee Brewers' coaching staff in 2009 but not as third base coach. Or bench coach. Looking for a different challenge, Sveum persuaded new manager Ken Macha to give him a shot as the team's hitting coach. Sveum will replace Jim Skaalen, who was not retained after the '08 season. "This is something I've always wanted to do," Sveum said Saturday. "This has been a passion of mine, and I'm glad Ken is giving me the opportunity to do it." Sveum, 44, became the Brewers' third base coach in 2006 before moving to bench coach in '07. This year, he agreed to move back to third when Ted Simmons was hired as the bench coach.

He shoulda been their skipper Dale was never a great batter, this has me puzzled.

Great players rarely make great coaches. Installing great players as coaches and managers is usually a disaster. Most great players don't even know how they are able to play as well as they do. It's the struggling player who must learn the best techniques.

Laughs he should invest in a nice Roget's Thesaurus and take an English As Second Language course.

If we ever figure out just what the hell this guy is trying to say it's gonna be a bigger scientific breakthrough than if we learned to talk with dolphins.

I would eat my lilypad for one shot at a long-distance tongue zap at your left nipplerooskie. I know I could do it.

Okay, if nobody else will say it, I will. Sveum sounds a lot like something that would crust up your boxers after watching a Cinemax late-night feature.
