Rutgers losing recruits to struggles?
Tom Savage, listed as the fifth-ranked pro-style quarterback by Rivals.com, has reiterated numerous times this season that he is committed to coming to Rutgers for next season. But there already have been four members of his recruiting class who have rescinded or re-opened their commitments. Some have done it for reasons related to the school's proximity to their home. Others felt they committed too early and now want to properly weigh all of their options. And while many have seen this as an example of why Rutgers cannot be a big-time football program -- the opposite is true. In an ironic twist, having this happen makes Rutgers a big-time football program.

I have been a Syracuse fan for over 50 years and I'm pretty sure I'm right on this comment: Losing to Syracuse which lost to Akron cannot do very much for recruiting.

Any program that struggles is bound to lose recruits. It's those who stay, I respect. Not the ones who jump from a verbal because the team is struggling the season before.

I agree with you both. you can't have recruits wanting to come in if you have a bad season they want to go to a winner

Well considering they were getting a bunch of recruits were going there based off of the bandwagon effect... now the wheels have fallen off the wagon

Too bad it doesn't talk about the recruits in question. The fact is that Rutgers' 2009 class had filled up so quickly, there were bound to be some decommits whether they were winless or undefeated at this point.
The key of this class, Savage, isn't going anywhere. As a leader, others will follow.

People... Is anyone paying attention to the Big East and RU right now??? The Big East is so awful this year that Rutgers, mathematically is still alive for the conference title. I am not really a Rutgers fan, but mandfense above hits the nail right on the head. RU's 2009 class has been loaded for quite some time; there are always going to be decommits in every program regardless of records; and most importantly (as well as most shocking to me) the gem of the verbals, Savage has repeatedly said he's not backing out of Rutgers.

Uh... no.
Naving this happen does not make Rutgers a big-time football program.
It does threaten to throttle and likely recerse their rise.
