Source: Limited market for Varitek

One NL official thinks there's a limited market for Jason Varitek and doesn't buy Detroit as a destination for him. "With the Tigers trying to cut payroll and with Jason getting up there in years, I think the best bet is staying in Boston," said the official. "He's more valuable to them than he is to anyone else. He knows the pitching staff. If he goes someplace else, his great ability to work with pitchers won't come into effect until he learns a whole new staff. Especially if he goes to the National League."

Wow an article that sounds logical, way to go T&R!

November 3, 2008  07:47 AM ET

He will stay with Boston on a two year deal with a club option on the third. Plus, his Bat makes him more of a NL Pitcher when it comes to offense. Not many teams will sacrifice two slots in a lineup for offense. I'd be shocked if he didn't stay with Boston. Even Boras isn't that dumb...

It's one thing that your old and losing your edge, but let's face it, teams can never have enough catching talent, even as backup, but having Scott Jack..er..BorAss as your agent causes a collective groan in front offices around the league.

Your best move is to stay in Boston, or represent yourself.

When will the Boston Globe be sued over plagarism? NO way they scribed this article? I usually see a literary orgasm when they write about the redsux

older catcher, in significant decline.......
no duh there are limited options.
Now if he's willing to go somewhere for a small contract
his options open up nicely

Wow... witty retort.... Despite it actually making any sense at all, you were able to (mis)use the world "plagarism" (and we won't hold spelling against you... the word is "plagiarism"... still makes no sense) AND get the word "literary" in to describe newspaper writing!!!
...They sure do got some fancy book-learning up in Wisconsin.

I will restate what I've said previously. Anyone who lives in New Hampshire should be kicked in the nads each morning and sold off as cheap labor to the bolsheviks. Fekkking dunce. Talk sports when you actually have a sports team in your state. Right now, you have college hockey or some shyte. Enjoy that.

Give New Hampshirans credit where credit is due. They also have league syrup-tapping and competitive foliage-watching.

I will give them credit with the foliage watching. That can be quite difficult on the eyes for an amateur. Although Visine must advertise like crazy during a match.

It wasn't, technically, even a retort.

Now get over here and smile like a donut, I'm gonna make you love me!

Varitek has NO value outside of Boston
Can't hit
Can't throw people out

but as all the Bostonians love to say he calls a great game
well that may be true, but if he goes to a new team he'll have to re-learn a new pitching staff, soo yeah not worth it

Not worth it, indeed. Much like reading your comments...

It wasn't a "come back" as you didn't insult me in the first place. It was simply an observation.

Whoah whoah easy with the NH hating! Clearly the two of you are from where? Ohhhhh I see you don't list a location. Let me guess where you are from, I don't want to ruin the surprise by clicking your predictably dumb profiles. I'm guessing upstate NY somehwere yes? That's usually where they try and act like they are from somewhere relevant. I'm guessing Troy or Albany judging from your bitterness and rudimentary understanding of New England. Pennywise you are clearly from somewhere horrible. It's tough to be worse than Troy but you are. Hmmmmm somewhere really really bad......Maybe a suburb of Buffalo? Very original though with the generic maple syrup jokes, those were REALLY good. You must be a joke writer for a living huh? Want to mock a Canadian maybe? How about some quip about hockey? Or maybe their flag!! That's about your speed isn't it? Can you feel me or should I perhaps try and lower my syllable count per sentence?
