Yeah, it's easy for him to be strong when he has a 6 million dollar buyout and probably a job waiting for him at either Syracuse or Washington. Maybe he'll be kind and take them all with him. We need a clean slate at Tennessee.

Enough with the golden parachute crap. It's called a contract, and it keeps a good coach from jumping ship every time someone throws more money at them.

According to ESPN he is a goner, so I don't know how strong his coaches will be.

Yep, it's pretty funny.....just a year and a half after the Sabanator arrived, Phat Phil is getting the boot and Tommy Tubs is on a hot seat as well. He won't survive either. next up: Lying Les Miles. Saban's gonna smoke 'em out one by one.

I just wanted to say, someone tell Phil that "going for the W" does not mean the Whopper at Burger King...

Phil Fulmer has a record of 150-51 as head coach at Tennessee. Among head coaches with 10+ years of experience, that places him at #3, behind Bobby B and JoePa. While he was head coach, Tennessee won the 1998 national championship, the Vols' first since 1951. Since the SEC instituted divisions, Fulmer's Tennessee teams have played in the championship game 5 times (more than any other SEC team to date), winning it twice.

It's clear that Fulmer relies heavily on his staff. Chavis and Cutcliffe have contributed mightily to Tennessee's success during Fulmer's tenure. When Cutcliffe left to coach Ole Miss, Fulmer turned to former Vol QB, Randy Sanders. Likely, Sanders will be recognized as a fine coach in the future, but the Vols underperformed while he was OC. Cutcliffe returned, and so did the Vols potent offense. With Cutcliffe off to Duke, Fulmer reached outside the Tennessee program to hire Dave Clawson. Given his prior success, especially developing QBs, it seemed a shrewd hire. However, the Vols offense - stacked with talent - has been awful throughout 2008. Fulmer has made two hires, Sanders and Clawson, and each has failed to maintain Tennessee's offensive power and success. Rather than reflect upon the two OCs, the buck will stop with Phil Fulmer.

No one truly associated with The University of Tennessee will not be torn by Phil Fulmer's parting. His accomplishments with the Volunteers are deeply appreciated by the University, the alumni, those who played under Fulmer, and all true Vols fans. Fulmer is a class act, with the integrity one wants and needs in a leader that will help to shape the characters of young men. If it is his time to leave Tennessee, let us hope that his departure occurs in a manner that will not besmirch the man, the University, nor the legacy of all that they've accomplished together.

Lying Les Miles? Are you seriously saying that in defense of Jumpin' Ship Saban? The guy that left LSU early to go to the NFL. The guy that failed at Miami and jumped ship after 1 year after promising over and over again "Im not going anywhere". Saban flat out lied in Miami over and over then left 3 years early (4 year contract....coached 1). And you call Miles a liar? Are you high?

And flashdog. Play Florida before running your mouth. Who has Alabama played this year? Georgia? Anyone else? And Saban ran off Fulmer? Guess that crushing loss to Florida didnt have anything to do with it. I mean he has beaten the Gators what? Twice in 15 years, or is it 3 times. And that lost to Spurrier and South Carolina? Guess that didnt play into it either. Good luck against the lying Les Miles this week. I hope LSU pummels Bama for no other reason than the lying, running Saban. Maybe he will run off to another job (it will happen...it's his proven history)

Bama might hire him as a coach when Saban runs off to coach elsewhere like he always does....dont kid yourself thinking he is staying.

Be strong! He telling these guys to be strong when at the end of the season and he steps down he gets a little pay check over the next 4 years for 6 mill..!!!!! Be strong! Only in America! Do a crappy job and get a lot of money for it! He will most likely go on one of the networks and become an expert and get even more money or maybe he will just go fishing. Be strong.

I hear Fulmer will announce today that he will step down at seasons end. Now I can only hope that TN pulls someone good to replace him. I would go after the OC of Texas maybe.

No question about it, you are right on that point. The way the Vils have been embarrassed by Florida, SC, and the others certainly contributed to his demise. My point was that, given the rivalry between Bama and Tenn, Fulmer had the heat turned up on him after Saban took over. And given the intensity of that rivalry, if you can't at least beat your arch rival, you probably cannot get away with losing the other games.

Saban's leaving Miami is his business.....after all, that's what it is, a business. Many people have a hard time realizing that. I do not fault a coach for accepting another job at a different place. Nothing's permanent. I hope he stays at Alabama; I think he's doing some good things there, but if he chooses to leave, that's his decision. Why should anyone think (in today's big money market and the new rules that go with it) that a coach is duty bound to turn down a pay raise and stay someplace he doesn't want to be at? I don't get that.

As a Gator fan, I can sincerely say, "We'll miss you Phil."

In total wins, yes. But if you are at a school with the history and prestige that Tennessee expects, losing every 4th game will not cut it for long, especially is you are see-sawing between good seasons and horrible ones.

I said it last week and i'll say it again GOOD BYE Fulmer. It's about time.
