White Sox shopping Vasquez

White Sox general manager Ken Williams relaxed Monday in a parlor at the St. Regis Resort, a fire flickering a few feet from a grand piano behind him, and seemed the picture of calm. Until the subject turned to veteran right-hander Javier Vazquez. Every executive attending the annual general managers meetings that officially kick off today knows the Sox are shopping Vazquez. And the reason runs deeper than a need to retool. Vazquez and the Sox have reached a crossroads. Rewind to September, when manager Ozzie Guillen put Vazquez in the public cross hairs by suggesting the one-time ace never has been a big-game pitcher and that point of the season -- in the midst of a dead-heat division battle with the Minnesota Twins -- was the time to step up. Then Vazquez went out -- time after time, right into the playoffs -- and proved he is, in fact, not a big-game pitcher.

Thank god.

November 4, 2008  07:29 AM ET

Well... Actually thank you Kenny. I can't really thank a god that doesn't exsist.

I wouldn't want to play for Guillen either, I am sure Vasquez would be happy to go.

November 4, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I really hope someone takes Vasquez, especially given his high salary.

Hey, wait, send him to the North side of Chicago. The Cubs are dumb enough to take him. They will even send some prospects to the White Sox.

I doubt Guillen would want your lame arse playing for him either Cubsfanil.

No thanks. You can keep the "spinning and swirling" Fukadome.

The Cubs and Fukadome are made for each other. Enjoy him.

still waiting to hear a player say they dont like playing for ozzie. in the meanwhile, every sox hater who says players can't stand him are just proving their bias and ignorance.

This being election day and all, I feel I should get on my bully pulpit and push my political agenda. I would like to expand upon my campaign slogan of "No Tomorrows." As you all know, the proliferation of nuclear weapons is a concern to us all. After countless hours engaged in exahustive research, my crack team of scientists have confirmed what I've thought all along: What's the best way to get rid of nuclear weapons? USE 'EM!

SlinkyRedfoot for President -- vote early and vote often.

I'm Slinkton B Redfoot, and I approved this message.

You broke it, you bought it!

Good one Cubsfanil. Nice usage of 'it.' You know all you can maybe make is a softball league for fat arses out in Westville Danny Charles.

Way to reduce the value of your own players...

The Cubs and their fans don't care about winning in the playoffs.

They only care about how to fill Wrigley and who sings "take me out to the ball game".

As long as they fill Wrigley, they are happy.

November 4, 2008  06:29 PM ET

The frustating thing is the guy has great stuff and could be unhittable for 5 innings then just implode, its very frustrating

Yeah, that's it dooshbag! All Cub fans want to make the playoffs and then lose. What a frekin idiot you are, no wonder you're a Sox fan! At least we can fill our stadium without a free giveaway or Moo & Oink customer appreciation night!

You don't understand. Cubs fans don't even care if they make it to the playoffs. You just mentioned "at least we can fill our stadium". That shows what you priorities are. You just proved that what I mentioned earlier is indeed correct.

Thanks!

Actually you didn't because you incorrectly quoted me. Nice try, maybe it worked for you in Jr High.
