The Twins' Bill Smith is in Los Angeles for baseball's general manager meetings, and it would be surprising if he doesn't talk to the San Diego Padres about a deal of third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff for left fielder Delmon Young.

Hmm... So the Delmon Young trade didn't quite work out... Stupid Twins and their stupid management/ownership...

Move this team to Oklahoma City and call them the Rain Drops.

Oh please! This is just Charley Walters talking here. If you believed everything that putz says, then you're an even bigger oaf than he is...
But in reality, this wouldn't be a bad deal at all for either side should the case arise. The Twins are in drastic need of a power-hitting 3B and the Padres could use a corner fielder that's young and in the bank for a while. Kouzmanoff had some decent numbers last year, though his average and OBP were not the best. Young actually did a lot better than many thought he would. He hit for a decent average at .290 and drove in 69 RBIs and looked pretty green in the field but still better than most with his experience. Young is going to be a threat in the future. And while he didn't pay off in the short term for the Twins, you can bet he'll be a good part of the long term should he stay on the team.
And get over yourself, Government. Yeah, the Twins may not have the best management in the league. But how many teams could have made it as far as they did with as little as they had this season?

November 4, 2008  09:01 AM ET

The Twins management is far from stupid. The owner may not be the greatest, but management is pretty decent given their success with what they have.

November 4, 2008  09:32 AM ET

the Twins need to find someone else to trade, one of those worthless pitchers they have like boof or some one else, but getting rid of Young would be a big mistake... they need to find a 3rd baseman but from this last season, they finished way better then expected, don't shake the boat to much

For real, NYY. The Twins have SOOOOO many pitchers in the pipeline that many will never see the bigs and the Twins will still have plenty of talent to last them for quite some time. I would not be sad to see Boof leave, much like when Silva, Lohse and Romero left in previous years. I don't know if anyone else saw it, but there was a fantasy blurb in last week's SI about the Twins trading Liriano to the Rangers for Saltalamacchia, Blalock and a couple other players and even that makes sense to me knowing what the Twins have coming in the next few years. But any way you slice it, the Twins are built on a foundation of pitching and will probably be that way for the duration of the Pohlad ownership. Buscher did a pretty good job at third this year, and could be the answer for the Twins if given another year or two. But at 27 already, he won't be a long term solution. But I definitely have to agree - don't rock the boat too much. Things look good enough as is.

It looks like an even up trade talent wise. The Twins really need an everyday 3b. They have plenty of OF talent. Maybe they could also package up Boof, Matt Tolbert, and Adam Everett for Jake Peavy (please?)

This just in... Delmon is a ehh-hole and no body wants to keep him

Yes he can:

The tall, skinny brother with the smooth jumper.

Delmon's going to be a beast..he's only 23 and had a rough year. Look at all the tools and give him a chance.

Are you serious? Twins have one of the best ownerships, look at this year for example. If the Rays didn't do good, the Twins would have gotten more attention. Did anyone expect them to do as good as they did?

Man that Delmont Young is getting traded every year or at least being mentioned. Think throwing that bat at the ump in the minors has anything to do with it? I mean the kid can obviously play the game and play it well but he keeps being bounced around. Well maybe he will learn his leason and stick on with somebody in the future.

November 4, 2008  06:18 PM ET

Everybody forgets that Young hit around .280 or .290 last year. He didn't hit for much power, but he has a strong arm and makes solid contact. So as he gets older his power will come. Hopefully the Twins will wait him out and watch him become an All-Star!!!

I can see that, especially with the Twins' apparent willingness to leave Liriano in the minors all season. But what would they do with Saltalamacchia? They have Mauer and Morneau already. It seems a shame to turn someone that young into a full-time DH.

You obviously don't watch to much baseball. The Twins are one of the best organizations in history they take literally nothing and turn it into something, so one trade didn't work out I'd like to refer you to a couple years ago when we traded a certain guy named A.J. Pierzynski for Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan, & Boof Bonser. Oh by the way Delmon is 22, so he had an off year he switched teams and struggled a little give him a break, this would be a terrible deal trade Cuddy hes over the hump in his career and is garbage. You must be a Yankee's fan or something cause all you know is a guy didn't do good one year so trade him.

You must not watch to must baseball. The Twins are one of the best organizations in history they literally take nothing to something every year. Big deal this trade hasn't worked out yet, reality check Delmon is 22, he had an off year so what, he switched teams give the kid a break. The trade hasn't worked out yet but I would just like to make a point, A.J. Pierzynski for Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, & Boof Bonser, Twins management has the greatest farm system & all around management in the league and they are the most under-rated. Your team probably has half their players through our farm system, and from your comment you must be a Yankees fan, you believe in if the trade or player doesn't work for one year get rid of him. I hope your joking cause that was retarded.

November 5, 2008  02:47 AM ET

Stilll we can't even beat the Sox's. Uh maybe it's about time to get a real hitter other than trying out some run down players like Rondell White. The problems is that the owner is cheap. Oh and it was very smart of Terry Ryan trading away Matt Garza and Jason Bartlett to the Rays and letting J.C. Romero go 2 yrs ago. Johan Santana was right about his comment on how twins will trade away better players for minor league players. It's good that he left and got the money he deserve. I could see another good young player leaving the Twins and becoming a great players on other team.

November 5, 2008  03:43 AM ET

if they gonna trade young it will be in pitching not infielder...

Ummm - stupid management/ownership? You are talking about the other three Minnesota sports teams (Vikings, Wolves and Wild.) The Twins have been solid for years, although Billy Smith does not seem to be the best GM.

Also - they have a new stadium opening in 2010. They aren't going anywhere.

AND - Fannation, for some reason, has a love affair with Charley Walters and the St Paul Pioneer Press "Still just 25 cents." No one takes that rag serious.

Do you know anything, or did you just post to be the first?

Maybe after the Delmon Young move, they could make a deal for Jose Guillen (he's available) and sign Milton Bradley. The Padres would have the most volitile OF of all time. Bench clearing brawls would certainly be a pay-per-view event in San Diego!
