Yankees interested in Hudson

The Yankees are exploring a possible bid for free-agent second baseman Orlando Hudson, and are intrigued enough by Hudson's talent and reputation as an excellent clubhouse influence to bat around the possibilities of trading talented young second baseman Robinson Cano or even signing Hudson with the idea of moving him to centerfield. The Yankees' interest in Hudson could incite a crosstown battle with the Mets, who are weighing the idea of Hudson replacing Luis Castillo at second base for them.

yeah..we know already..yankees are after every free agent. besides cano is lazy out there in 2B..go for it

Hudson playing on the Hudson. Do it Cashman.

November 5, 2008  07:07 AM ET

I think Cashman needs to take a Xanex and chill.....He like a kid in the candy store with Daddy's wallet

November 5, 2008  08:06 AM ET

I think the Mets are in more of a need to get Hudson than the Yankees. Well, that is unless they plan on making Castillo the second 6 Million Dollar Man. "We have the tools. We can rebuild him". <bionic sounds>

Now here's a thread that will make JC smile. He'll be the first to tell you he's had a man-**** for Hudson for quite some time now!

Eeewwww!!!

CENTERFIELD????

why in the HELL would you sign a 2nd baseman and
move them to CF.........?????

How about signing a centerfielder if you need a centerfielder

And 2nd base???? this is the LEAST of the Yankees issues

Of course Hudson, many of us talked about this during the season, in September and again in October. Cano has become very good trade bait. He refused to go to third when A Rod was hurt early on during the year. It was just a suggestion by cashman at the time but the yankees did not hear "sure I'll go there anything to help the team" instead they heard, "no way I play second." Not a yankee thing to say. It wasn't just that that annoyed them. He has made mental errors and has blown routine plays and we all know that he is a free swinger, and the AL pitchers pitch him off the plate and he swings at them alot, and misses. His style of hitting is not to be patient but aggressive. Aggression in the strike zone is good. But he is aggressive outside of the hitting zone a little to much.

He like Ian Kennedy saying things that are not team player comments, has sort of put him in the dog house with Yankee management. Nothing is a lock, but look for these two to be traded if the price is right. yankee needs? CF, SP, 1B

November 5, 2008  09:43 AM ET

HE IS 30.......
you are going to take an AGING player who doesn't steal bases
and hasn't played a full season - a nd 'convert' him to the outfield?

And you're giving up Cano????
for him???
this is CRAZY-

Granted cano played LOUSY last year....
he is WAY too talented o simply 'give up on'

Now if you want to trade Cano as a piece in say a deal for
Peavy or Holliday....I'm all for that
but Orland Hudson???? YUCK

There he is, what's up, Tony? Good to see you around.

Cano personnaly blew about 8 games I can remember last lear with his bone headed defensive play. I would package him for a # 1 or 2 starter....On a side note its too bad The Yanks did not get rid of Melky at the beginning of last year, when he had some value

November 5, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Yes! Trade Cano away. Giving him a contract last spring was a huge mistake and he has done nothing to earn it. He doesn't hustle and is lazy and without Bowa to ride his arse all season it showed. Or maybe the Yanks sign Hudson just to put the heat on Cano to play hard and then move Hudson to the outfield.

November 5, 2008  11:14 AM ET

Cano is a very skilled player, but if they sign Hudson, they improve the defense and can move Cano for a decent starter. Cano is too lazy and unmotivated.

The Yankees need to get back character guys and pitching... something they have been a little short on lately.

Keep Cano,
This year was an off year, he came on again at the end of the year after getting benched for a game. He has the bat to be a batting champion, that does not grow on trees. Give the kid another year, my money says he comes through.

That is among the most sensible things I've ever seen you say. So does that mean we can keep Kennedy, too?

I am not against keeping Kennedy. while I may think he has less of an upside than someone who throws 95 plus, i was never for dumping him outright and i am not sold that he is as bad as his stats last year.
but no friggin Manny.

November 5, 2008  12:08 PM ET

And he could get his cast in Yankee pinstripes next year.

November 5, 2008  12:15 PM ET

If the Yanks needed someone at 2B, Hudson would be a good candidate...but Cano has too much upside. I agree, give him another year...plus if he were to be traded, the Yanks would need to each some of that contract. Girardi is supposedly good at firing up the younger players, so Cano should be one of his projects.

Package Kennedy and Melky to see what can be obtained...may not be much, but it's worth a look. I liked what I saw from Gardner in CF.

Trading Cano for Hudson doesnt seem to add up. He had a down year after signing a very nice contract, which seems to be a fairly common disease. This is a crap article. If they are going to get rid of Cano via trade it will be in a package deal to get Peavy.
