Following recent trips to watch games at Georgia, Florida, Clemson and Georgia Tech, Stanford commit Jamal Patterson of Henry County said one of the nation's most storied football programs has turned up the recruiting heat during the past week. "Michigan has been recruiting me extremely hard lately," Patterson said this evening. "But Stanford is still number one."

Another reason to love Rich Rodriguez.

What that he goes after other school's commits like EVERY other coach in college football? Okay, with the exception of JoePa, but he's in a league (and era?) by himself!

Whatever it takes, Rich. U-M can't afford not to recruit as aggressively as possible these days.

This is a better strategy than what we have done so far.

Lately, it seems we are waiting until a WR receiver is already on an opposing team, then we are chasing them all the way to the goal line...

Don't do it Patterson!! Stanford's headcoach is a michigan man. More so then the coach is at michigan! Plus Stanford has been winning more games this year.

So has Toledo...

UM will have another WR decommit in Dwayne Peace. He realized he doesn't like cold weather. Thus why UM is going after WRs.

Good point, I didn't know if it was too soon for that comment or not.

The "Michigan Man" days and mindset are OVER! Where will he have the better opportunities? Michigan clearly.

I think everyone is missing the point. How far has UM's program fallen when they have to chase a Stanford recruit, and he still prefers Stanford. No offense to Stanford, but UM is one of the most storied programs in history.

November 6, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Stanford? What's up with that? If you cross the country at least go for Oregon or Arizona St when you have good east coast teams trying to recruit you.

November 6, 2008  10:04 AM ET

This is not news...this is RR's style..that's how "He rolls"...just ask Tiller @ Purdue...

Keep piling on, you should know first hand what can happen within a short period of time when a coach gets there players in there.

Also JoePa just took a commit from UM in Fera just weeks ago, so keeping throwing stones in your glass house. It is funny that pretty much all recruits say it is common practice with repect to coaches continuing to recruit them after they commit.

Keep on bashing RR, it is only a matter of time just like EVERYWHERE he has coached before and you'll see why he is the right choice.

What could Dick Rod possibly promise a recruit? Come to Michigan and you will be a star when I get fired in 2 years?

You UM fans really need to lay off RR and give him a chance. Geez even as an ND fan I liked it better when you guys bashed Weis mercilessly!

November 6, 2008  11:24 AM ET

RR has a history of recruiting thugs , so if he is going after someone qualified to be recruited by Stanford that is at least an improvement.
It will be interesting to see how U. of Michigan boosters will react when the likes of Pacman Jones, Chris Henry and Gwaltney show up on their campus.

November 6, 2008  11:29 AM ET

ANYTHING that will help pmy Wolverines beat MSU and ND next year!

I only get on my knees to pray and after reading that post it seems you should do some of that yourself.
Its sports, if you can't laugh about it you need some help.
