pettite loves the yanks though. this guy have the best pick up move i've seen.

If Rocket Roger was worth $1m per game then Petite should get half that much. Lefties are still in demand last time I looked.

Still, with the Moose and Andy P, the Yanks have an old pitching staff. Maybe Cashman should try to get some good young arms from the small markets minnows.

I suppose it could happen....

Intrusive press, front runner fans, a team desparate for reliable pitching next year and a clownish owner/head geek like Hank running his mouth off to the cameras like a horse's patoot every time he slips his leash, or skips his meds....

Sounds like a recipe for a lefty pitcher to sign a low ball deal just to play there if you ask me!

The Yankees are in the position to rebuild 1/4-1/3 of their entire team in one off-season. It is admirable that Andy wants to remain a Yankee, but I think it would be foolish for the Yankees to extend anything close to what he earned last year. The Yankees would be wiser to sign Jon Garland (a workhorse, innings-eating, solid #2-3 starter) or born-again-hard 2008 All-Star Ryan Dempster for the money Pettite would expect. The Yankees need to be thinking of 2009-2012, not yesterday. Pettitte should only be signed as a #5, and he should be paid no more than $8-10M. In comparison, he really didn't pitch any better than Jason Marquis, certainly toward the end when it mattered in 2008, and Marquis is making roughly that same cash. Andy is never again going to need to work as it is, and he should just be grateful for an opportunity to pitch for a MUCH new and improved Yankees team. He isn't going to get offered any more than $8-10 on the open market in this pitching -flooded off-season, anyway. Personally, I think his Yankee days may be numbered unless he gives Mr. Cashman a contract with a blank salary space ala Andre Dawson in Chicago.

Pettitte had an off year last year. Actually, the whole Yankee team had an off year last year. He was still pretty accurate in his pitching, just his velocity is down a little. He's definitely not worth 16 million anymore. But 10-11 million sounds about right compared to the market. The extra million thought would be because he's a southpaw, and it seems lefties are in a little more demand. Besides, this could finally be the year he decides to retire. For all we know, he could be next year's Moose!

Pettitte is probably worth $10M or less. These days, he's basically Gil Meche from the Royals, but not as good.

This has nothing to do with the Yankees... It's just Pettitte and those slimy agents searching a tax loop hole.

Guess I didn't look at it that way. Harsh comparison, but definitely fair...

One season does not a washout make, but his second-half showing this year really gives me pause. I'm glad I'm not the one who has to decide whether or not to bring him back. If I were, I think I would err on the side of caution and let him go.

I agree for the most part.....

Biggest thing though Pettite has that the others don't......
he knows how the Bronx works-
even though it seems silly...it is a MAJOR problem for many
1st time yankees-

I personally want EITHER mus or pettite.
No reason we should have TWO old men on the staff. PERIOD

Same here. But between Pettite and Moose, it's an easier decision for me. Moose, hands down.

Too bad they've got that new stadium. Else, I think we might have had a shot. Come back to the Astros, Andy! You've probably got a better shot at a WS title here than in the Bronx. Oh, and what's up with the pederast pick on comment #15? Riiiiight. Yanks fans.

Andy probably knows he isn't getting more than $10-12M to come back. But for him it isn't about the money or playing for another team. He has said it is either the Yankees or retirement. Nice to see some people still have that loyalty. And before anyone says he jumped ship to the Astros for a few years the Yanks insulted him and basically forced him out back then.

Moose wants at least 2 years because he needs to win 30 games to reach 300 and guarantee his spot in the HOF. Yankees have seen that young pitching can take a while to mature so they know they need some veterans on the staff. Moose and Cashman should sit down and iron out a 2 year contract at $13M a season with an option year. It would be good for the Yanks to have all the pagentry that would go along with a pitcher winning his 300th game so that might even pay for part of the cost of keeping Moose. Andy wants to come back and I do like him but he is losing his effectiveness so if they bring him back this would have to be his swan song and thus only a 1 year deal.

So sign him to one year and two club options for a year each, heck, give the guy incentives...he will clearly be motivated as he is working towards a goal, I just don't want to get caught with him if he drops off the table. Work out a deal, he hates change and there is a middle ground.
