Richt: Give Moreno a break

Georgia fans say they have a simple solution for some of the Bulldogs' scoring woes -- keep Knowshon Moreno on the field. Moreno, a tailback, has the option of pulling himself out of games if he's tired or hurt. He did that a couple of times this past Saturday against Florida. "You know what, I know people have said that but I really have not studied it to see exactly what's happening," Georgia coach Mark Richt said of Moreno's absences. "I just think when Knowshon is gassed to the point where he's not going to be as effective as the next guy he's going to let us know."

If he keeps getting gassed, just give hime some extra Gatorade. Florida's finest drop.

It's easy to get "tired" when you are losing big.

Yes when you're a defensive player, not so much when you're a running back and your team has to throw the ball to get back in the game.

The TRUTH is suggesting that Richt and Georgie were much ado about nothing.

November 6, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Well, why is this a story? You get tired, you get replaced for a play or two. Players need breathers, duh!

November 6, 2008  09:16 AM ET

funny how he never got gassed before, running all over lesser teams and jumping around doing breakdance moves. when you know you're beat, it's hard to give your best. now we know, he's just a quitter if he knows he can't rush for 150 yards in that game.

This reminds me of Chris Leak from Florida who caught slack because he wouldn't scramble/run out of the pocket when under pressure. Remember that, and I always thought he was trying to keep himself from getting hurt, like his brother who blew out his knee at Univ of TN, so he could make it to the NFL. Didn't work out so well for him since he's not in the NFL. I get the feeling Knowshon is doing the same thing, limiting his chances of getting hurt, and the NFL is watching, they don't want someone who shows lack of stamina or fear of getting hurt on the field. This hub-bub about him taking himself out of games is going to hurt him in the NFL draft.

November 6, 2008  09:38 AM ET

He's not the only guy on the field and he would know better than anyone if he can make a play. Cut him some slack folks.

November 6, 2008  09:57 AM ET

He's another SEC flash in the pan NOBODY!

November 6, 2008  09:58 AM ET

The story should not be about how much Moreno is in the game; the story should be about how much Bobo is choosing to pass when the run is working just fine.

November 6, 2008  10:58 AM ET

I guess that is good for society as a whole if you don't have a story to write about someone slapping or choking their girlfriend,,,,,,,,,,,, 'uh, wait a second you're not talking about Florida at the moment are you?

I'm glad to see your ariel on that '89 F150 gets wireless. Your certificate for participation is in the mail

Truth be told Knowshon is a great RB but what about Caleb King? What has he done beside miss blocks and let defenses know we aren't going to run. georgia needs to get more creative with there play calling. Bobo is calling plays like he is in the 90's. Teams are faster and more athletic. Georgia has Logan Grey a Athlete and he play QB and run like a 4.5 and all he has played is a little WR. A place where we don't need him. Bobo & Mark R need to look at what Florida is doing as far as trying to get the fastest team in America and run people of the field and not make excuses. If a player can't help don't sign them!

This is a perfect example of why fans are where they are, in the stands cheering where we belong and the coaches coach and the players play. The vast majority of fans have no clue what is going on or what should be done in any given situation during a football game. I'm sure Mark Richt knows what he is doing and I can't beleive Moreno would leave the field if he didn't need to. Everything is great when your team is winning, but as soon as a big loss comes along, the fans all of a sudden become experts on what's wrong. Georgia's my team, but after the "Bama game it became obvious they were somewhat overated.

Players leave games all the time. To even question a back of Moreno's caliber and production is risky. This man ran well in the Florida game and has produced well over the last two years. Let's talk about Richt trying to make this game about Stafford's throwing instead of running Moreno more in the first half when the game was still 14-3.

1) He has done that against lesser teams this year.

2) He did that on the first drive of the game last Saturday, before we were getting beat.

3) Watch UGA games before commenting.

Jesus, have you EVER seen Knowshon run the ball?

To describe him as a runner as someone who is afraid of getting hurt is just laughable. Wow.

I think it is just ashame, only work hard when you have something to gain. If you can pad your stats against a lesser team that fine and dandy. If you are getting crushed by a superior team and your stats are hurting pull yourself out and give yourself an excuse. Guess what? Everyone is watching.....
