Clausen 'banged up' for Boston College

As if facing the nation's 10th-ranked defense at raucous Alumni Stadium in what could be wet weather isn't daunting enough for a Notre Dame team struggling to define itself, quarterback Jimmy Clausen appears to be nursing an injury -- or injuries -- that might mean he's less than 100 percent Saturday night at Boston College. Coach Charlie Weis rarely gives out detailed injury information. It was no different in Clausen's case, although he did admit his quarterback got ''banged up'' Saturday in a 36-33 quadruple-overtime loss to Pittsburgh ''He's on the injury report every week,'' Weis said. ''It's a whole litany of different things.'' Clausen, who reportedly has been favoring his right foot and ankle in practice, missed all or parts of three games last season with what was mostly attributed to ''general soreness.''

I almost feel bad for him.

Becuase he's a bust out ND QB or because he's banged up?

November 6, 2008  07:33 AM ET

they'll pump him up with some good pharmaceutical pain killers. If all else fails, they can put in Joe Montana's son!

November 6, 2008  07:50 AM ET

This kid is probably like Samson.... and someone cut his hair....

November 6, 2008  07:58 AM ET

As much as I hate ND, I don't mind this kid. He seems to be a hard worker....and after the beating he took last year behind that offensive line, he kept on ticking. I still don't think he is going to amount to much in the way of a pro or Heisman type QB, but he seems pretty tough.

Clausen is a gamer even though I think he likes his beer more than his football. He's earned my respect as a QB.

November 6, 2008  08:04 AM ET

When I was 20, I liked my beer more than anything too.....who am I kidding....still do.

November 6, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Kid's what? 19? Maybe 20? Lace 'em up and play son!!!!!!!!!!!!!

November 6, 2008  08:55 AM ET

I am not a ND fan but he's a good QB. He has the tools to be a good college QB and a prospective NFL QB.

He will play Saturday and he will perform.

November 6, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Sounds like Weis is getting the excuses started early this week.

November 6, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Weis has indicated a change in the line up. Me thinks thats code for some players in the O line getting shuffled. They are improved from last year, but have intensity issues. Clausen is steady, had a lot of touch, or zip on the ball as needed, but by the end of the Pitt game, he seemed a bit of a mystery. Either bad play calling or injury to Clausen...They ran, ran, ran and only took one good shot at the end zone, a high throw that was missed, ND then went immediately to the run. If this week, Clausen is still banged up, unable to throw the deep ball against BC, we'll know early and so will BC. ND still can get to 8-wins, but 9-wins would come with a BC loss.

Im still puzzle why some people want to put this guy down and stay on his back, hey like it was said earlier this kid took a hell of a beating last year and was bang up in more then one game but he had the guts to suck it up and play even though he had the worst offensive line in football. So i think he will play and play well like he has done all year but the biggest problem with this team is the offensive line and running backs they are still inconsistant .

November 6, 2008  10:58 AM ET

not sure a guy who has already put up better numbers in his sophomore year than brady quinn in his sophomore year can be considered a bust.

It is the ever present "anti ND" element that puts him down bears 2009. It doesn't matter who is playing for the Irish these people just plain hate anything ND (I'll let others speculate on the reasons why). Having said that it is too early to tell how far this kid's talent may take him but there is no question that he has a great deal of "intestinal fortitude" after the pounding he has taken (without pointing fingers) over the last year and a half.

Kids proved he is tough thats for sure. Does anyone remember the Michigan at OSU game when Chad Henne got hurt, went to the locker room and came back stumbling all over the field. He was in the shotgun formation ,he raises his foot to signal the center to snap the ball and falls forward and the ball bounces off his facemask. That was freaking hilarious. Better living through chemistry I always say.

He has earned a measure of respect with his toughness. His problems with image started before he ever played showing up at ND getting out of a hummer with spiked hair to announce sign his letter of intent. He seems like a level headed person and I think he probably regrets doing that now.

Damn, man! Give it a rest with the "everybody picks on us" routine, would you? It's getting tired.

Not my team dude. I moved here almost two years ago to help with my ailing Mother. I'm from central Ohio. If I can root for the Buckeyes I've proved I have a sense of humor.
Maybe next year, lol.
