Giants won't trade Cain

Yes, teams continue to ask Giants general manager Brian Sabean about Matt Cain. No, Sabean's not budging. At the GM meetings Wednesday, Sabean delivered his strongest statement to date that the 24-year-old pitcher won't be traded this offseason for a hitter. Asked if Cain is untouchable, Sabean said, "Yes. Clubs know that. That hasn't necessarily discouraged clubs from inquiring or making suggestions of offers. But we don't see anything out there that gives us a net gain by losing him." Sabean is seeking offensive help in other ways, including free agency and trades for pitchers not named Cain, Tim Lincecum or Brian Wilson. His best remaining chips include Jonathan Sanchez and pitching prospects, though it wouldn't be easy parting with top prospects Madison Bumgarner, 19, or Tim Alderson, who turned 20 this week, both first-round picks from the 2007 draft.

completely understandable not wanting to get rid of Cain, but if you want something of value you need to relinquish something of value.

Um... Hey Brian, you signed Barry Zito... You have no room to talk.

They're just a damned mess in San Francisco, and they've got a long way to go before they can have their act together again. One season of free-agent signings and/or player trades just isn't going to do it; there's only so much you can do each year as there are only so many impact players avalable. They might want to think about starting to aggressively stock their farm.

They are on their way to doing it like the Rays did, consistent losing gets good picks.

Why not eat 90% of Zito's salary and trade him? The Giants are a joke (0 WS champs in SF).
Do something, trade everybody, let's have a clue here people. Zito and Rowand your cornerstones? Pathetic.

I would not be surprised to see him traded to the Brewers for Prince Fielder

The Blue Jays should have pushed to complete the trade last offseason that would have sent Caine to Toronto for Alex Rios!

The only way this comment could be any more stupid is if it was written in crayon.
