The Angels have tabled contract negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero, raising the possibility that the star outfielder could leave the team as a free agent next fall. The Angels exercised their $15-million option last week but opted not to revive discussions about a long-term extension. General Manager Tony Reagins said the Angels based the decision on the results of preliminary negotiations held last winter.

Well, from an offensive standpoint, he did just have his worst year since 1997.

go through the season & see what happens.
One year from Vlad at 15 is an excellent deal from an Angel
management perspective.........

Totally true, Slink. But I know I'd be happy to see him off that team. Better yet, I'd be really happy if he went back to the NL. The guy smacks AL pitching around pretty well when he's healthy...

Right. Even though it was his worst season since '97, it was still good.

Yes... next stop Oakland A's DH

November 8, 2008  11:40 AM ET

The $$$$$ focus is on CC and Tex...there may not be enough for Vladdie....that is clear.

November 8, 2008  12:57 PM ET

I doubt Vlady has a problem with this...

November 8, 2008  03:43 PM ET

I love Vlad... He has been great for us... But after next year... Going to have to give it serious consideration... Depending on what type of money he wants

November 8, 2008  05:41 PM ET

Vlad Guerrero won't have any trouble finding a job and a pay raise if the Angels don't want him at the end of next year.

Every team in the Majors would GLAD to have him

The scare crow could go in any direction he wants , still put up the numbers, still look ill after one of his swings , but will take him in a minute LOL

November 9, 2008  12:50 AM ET

and all long suffering ranger fans rejoice.

November 9, 2008  02:39 AM ET

27 hr, 91 rbi and .303 avg....and thats a bad year for him....and he was playing injured all year. I am sure many players would love to have those #s. Any ways....if they do sign an extension....no more than two years....not sure how long those knees would hold up.

Its off topic, but why doesn't MLB crack down on the few players that get away with wearing those scummy pine tar encrusted batting helmets? Its so bush league. Aren't there uniform rules in place about covering up the team logos on batting helmets? In essence, that is what they are doing. I remember once when a reporter asked Jerry Rice why he always polished his helmet just before games he said it was because he wanted to look like a professional athlete. Vlad, Manny Ramirez and a few other pine tar addicts out there could learn a thing or two from this example.

I think it's just exceedingly poor hygene. Would you have dinner over at their places (assuming they were preparing the kmeal)? I think not.
