09:17 AM ET 11.08 | Gary Carter will manage in New York next season. It just will not be the job he lobbied for earlier this year. Carter, a Hall of Famer and former Met, will manage the minor league Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He publicly lobbied to replace Willie Randolph as the Mets' manager last season while Randolph still had the job. The Mets eventually replaced Randolph with Jerry Manuel. The Mets offered him the Class AA Binghamton job the next season, but he turned it down. He said in June that a Hall of Famer should not have to go to Class AA to prove himself.
