Texas Tech coach Mike Leach has an interesting way of calling the Red Raiders' next contest what it is: "The biggest game in the history of this year."

heh.....there's something fundamentally logical about that.

Like this guy. I am sorry to say this to Tech fans: but I hope a bigger school comes calling for him. Would like to see what his offense does at Tennessee or Clemson.

November 8, 2008  01:41 PM ET

Hey, new york guy, sorry, ten years too late. This is no longer 1999.
Tennessee and Clemson are a step down from Big 12 South.
Tech is a program on the rise.
Within the state, and country, it is a Cool School.
Resources are not an issue.
He and Bob Stoops have it going on, and are playing it smart, after watching what happens to leapfrogs.

Regardless of the year, Lubbock isn't cool. It is a 55,000 seat stadium and will always be the baby brother to Texas and the Aggies. Or, he could coach in an over 100,000 seat stadium. Of course, I wouldn't expect someone from West Texass to understand this though.

November 8, 2008  06:59 PM ET

agreed. Lubbock is a lousy college town, even according to a TTU alum. However, I think Leach might like where he is. He doesn't seem motivated by money, because if he was, he'd have asked for and gotten more from TTU by now, even before this year. Look at his record. Look at consecutive bowl games. This guy can flat-out coach. That said, I wouldn't blame another school a BIT for coming after him. Same story with Kirk Ferentz at Iowa a few years back. I think he just likes where he is (although Iowa is terrible now...)

November 9, 2008  12:07 AM ET

I'm guessing he will get a fat-arse check extended to him shortly.

November 9, 2008  12:15 AM ET

Have you ever BEEN to Lubbock? I was born and raised there and have lived all over the U.S. I can HONESTLY say that the people in Lubbock are REAL! They aren't spoilers, they are honest, hard working FRIENDLY folks who actually care about one another. They support Texas Tech because of the VALUES they were taught as children. It would do you ALL some good to spend time in a town before you bad mouyh it! Texas Tech NEEDS the National Championship, not for he glamour and fame (though I hear that is fun) but for the added funding it will bring to both the athletic AND academic programs. Be careful of the toes you step on today, for they may be attached to the **** you have fo kiss tomorrow!

ih8ball - dude. go to Lubbock. It is a super cool college town. My kid is there now. It is a good job.... that said, Tennesee is a better job. we know this. Clemson.....I dunno, that seems like a lateral move to me at best. AM has a bigger stadium then Jones and always will. That said, Tech beats AM like rented mules every year. All of us in Texas know that the only things AM beats Tech in are number of seats, losses, and embarassed alumni

oh and Queenfootball - buy a map. spring is in SE Texas

what "thejoker" said.
I lived there 40 years as well as in Lincoln Ne.. during the rise of Devany in the 60's. I witnessed the "growth" of football in both towns.
ih8cy would even be welcome there and if he didn't like it, he could move on and the folks from the llano estacado would genuinely wish him well. I don't think Tech will get by OU but I will guarantee you, if they don't, they will move on and the majority won't whine. It has many fine academic opportunities available, as do many schools. People pretty much live in harmony there. Lubbock is a great town with better people.

Lubbock is terrible just like the rest of West Texas. I am not sure why we haven't sold that to Mexico yet.

I am pretty sure the Aggies have quite a few more championships too. "All of us in Texas know?" Please, just stop right there. You have said enough.

Can someone translate what this idiot is trying to say? All I know is that your team lost by 5 touchdowns last night. Back to reality.

November 9, 2008  09:39 AM ET

you need to read more, like me.
1. nothing inflames the High Plains Drifters of West Texas more than comparing them to aggies. they are theh butt of jokes for good reasons.
2. comparing the quality of a gig based on seating capacity of a stadium is so stupid as to be at my level (besides, tt capacity grows after expansion plans). it should be based on quality of program and comp.
so where it matters, tt is second to none right now
perhaps the king football dude is upset that his lsu team sux this year and is in bitter mood.

Hey King....I'm not sure what game you were watching but Oklahoma (hence the Sooners name in his ID) won by 38. Your knowledge of football outside the SEC is weak so you may want to stick with that. If nothing else, enjoy the football they are playing in the Big 12. I know you have the jealousy factor to deal with but try to look past that and realize the Big 12 is the best football conference now.

We were talking about Oklahoma State but thanks for your input, dumbass.

You speak like a true Big 10 fan.

I hate LSU but they are the defending champions. Can you use spell check next time before you post?

LSU has 3 losses, all to top 12 teams. Isn't that the definition of a good season in Lubbock? Let's not compare the two programs. Although Texas Tech does look good so far let's see if they can win their conference first, something they have never done in the Big 12.
