Saltalamacchia would love Red Sox trade

Jarrod Saltalamacchia can't hide his excitement when he hears rumors of being traded to Boston. Nothing against Texas, he insists, where he's trying to wade through a catching maze with Gerald Laird and Taylor Teagarden after being acquired from the Braves at the trading deadline in 2007 in the Mark Teixeira deal. But the Red Sox are a team he has respected and enjoyed from afar. He grew up in West Palm Beach, Fla., and his favorite catcher - and idol, of sorts - was Jason Varitek. "That would be a dream come true," said Saltalamacchia, 23. "I'd love to go there and either work under Jason for a year or two or just go there and catch full-time. I just need to play," he said. "When I was traded from Atlanta to Texas, I thought I was going to play every day, but we have a lot of catchers here and our season didn't go the way we wanted it, so I found myself playing first base a little bit, catching a little bit, and so I never had any consistency behind the plate."

Salty for short!

Better'n "short and salty"! ;-) Great you get an up and coming catcher with star written all over him and I get a tentacle-coiffed clubhouse cancer and an unknown (at lest here anyway) Japanese pitcher! Actually, I know little about him and the buzz is he's supposed to be like Dice-K (aren't they all:) so I hope he does make it the Phillies.

I really feel for Saltalamacchia. It really looked like he was going to be the guy behind the plate for years to come when he went to TX and all they ended up doing was wasting him. It would be great to see him go to Boston because he'll definitely get playing time and he'll learn under one of the best in the game if Varitek comes back. Even if he doesn't, it still makes more sense than letting the guy rot another year. Come on, Theo! Get this done!

Heard grossie likes sugar gliders sauteed in butter and bacon grease with shrums, onions and garlic.

Saltamacchia fulfills a need for the Red Sox. in fact, I believe, Taylor Teagarden would also fulfill this need, another catcher at Texas. I hope neither happens.

I think it would be awesome to bring Saltalamacchia to Boston and have him work with Jason. This would be the best-case scenario. I hope this is how it lands up!

If they are trading for this guy-
Varitek is GONE...

you don't trade your own prospects to bring in a back-up
Varitek isnt' staying in Boston to be a back-up

Salty to the Sox. Love it.

Tek is gone, if no other reason than Boras.

Hey, Cat.

Salty in Boston and hofefully tek stays too...

Wow if you really think Tek is gone you are not a true sox fan. Tek is a lifer he will retire a Red Sox. Salty would be a great pick up and would be a great guy to take over for the Cap when retirement comes. Salty has a good stick and would be a great presence in the organization. Lets go sox in 09
