Manuel wants Manny in Philly

One thing you see with successful managers is them getting more power on personnel. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel fired third base coach Steve Smith after the season and is pretty open concerning his desire to obtain Manny Ram??rez. The cost might be prohibitive, but never underestimate the Phillies' ability to go after a player they want. They offered Mike Lowell a four-year deal last offseason. With new general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. taking over for Pat Gillick, the Phillies might be more apt to go along with Manuel's wishes. "I think Manny is in the best shape that I've ever seen him in," Manuel said. "His lower body is very strong. His legs are strong. You can tell by the way he hits and the way he moves around in the outfield. He's got a lot of baseball left in him."

Please tell me this is a sick, ill-timed April's Fool joke!! READ MY LIPS: "NO EFFEN WAY DO I WANT MANNY!"

He'll get lnyched if he pulls any of that Manny being Manny crap. This will never happen. It better not! Way to crap on my day T&R with this BS story.................

I hope the Phillies give him 5 years at $30 million per! Just kidding CU.
This is going to be a long off season of Manny going here or there stories. I would personally like to see the Yanks overspend for this idiot. He would destroy that locker room.

I really hope that this doesn't happen. On the plus side if it does, though, Philly fans will literally tear the guy apart if he starts his usual garbage. I would pay good money to see the outcome of that one...

See quote number three: tear apart, lynch, disembowel whatever your preference on mode of death, pull a Manny being Manny moment and you'll experience it in the City of Brother Love mister!

Yes! Manny in Philly... fits like a glove or a cheesesteak wit.

Notice what didn't Manual didn't mention when he talked about how healthy Manny is. He is a headcase, a complete nut job that would only be magnified in a media market like Philly. LA is the perfect town for Manny, big enough for his ego but laid back enough to accept him.

The Phightin's should concentrate on locking up some of the key members of the team before looking to add through free agency. Sign Pat the Bat if his demands are reasonable. If not, go get an above-average righthanded leftfielder and add a number 3 starter (like Lowe).

I agree completely, Pat the Bat is fine in LF and we need more pitching not dissent in the clubhouse.

I would love to see Manny in Philly. He deserves Philly Phans.

I happen to know for a fact that there are some very nice, polite, knowledgeable Philly fans ... do not lump them all into your little, closed-minded stereotype please.

November 9, 2008  01:50 PM ET

I would even say the same about Yankees fans .... and I'm a Red Sox fan ... takes all kinds. If we all rooted for the same team, what fun would that be?

Gah! Too much nice nice .... need turmoil, anxiety and rambunctiousness:

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said;
"FEED YOUR HEAD"

"FEED your head"

Of course Manny has good lower body and leg strength! He saved all of his energy dogging it in Boston! Charlie must be talking about seeing him move after the Dodgers traded for him and he stepped it up.
