Big 12-SEC a BCS lock?

The national championship picture became clearer Sunday. Barring the absolute chaos that afflicted the final weeks in 2007, the survivors of the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference season-long steel-cage matches will meet for the Bowl Championship Series title in Miami. The title game would represent a fitting climax: the two top teams in the two best conferences going head-to-head. Members of the SEC and Big 12 monopolized the first five spots in this week's BCS standings. Alabama was atop the standings again, followed by Texas Tech, a solid second choice after Penn State's upset loss at Iowa and now leading the computer rankings. Next on the list: Texas, Florida and Oklahoma. While Alabama and Texas Tech control their destiny, any of the first five teams remain viable for a championship appearance.

Don't count on it yet! Penn State is still the best team in college football and will win their way in the the NC game. One slip up against a very good Iowa team will not keep JoePa from his destiny. All you haters out there might not be believin' but it will happen, son. Penn State is the true #1!

Penn sucks... The big 10 sucks... its all about the sec and big 12 this year

November 10, 2008  09:22 AM ET

You gotta be kidding me!!! I give you the fact that Penn State deserved to be ranked well after going into Columbus but come on list who they have played this year that mattered. Can you tell me who they beat that is BCS bound? I can tell already that you are just like every bitter Pennsylvania team, 'clinging to your guns and religion', just kidding, but seriously if the Gators and Penn State played one another there wouldn't be a chance that you survived. Clearly the Gators are the better team and play in the toughest conference and guess what... THEY STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND PLAY WORTHY OPPONENTS!!! Nice try...

Florida will be Alabama in the SEC championship game, and i still believe that either Texas Tech or Texas will be able to pull it our for the Big 10. So i am predicting a Florida Gators vs Texas BCS Championship and The Gators will win by a TD and a FG 34-24

November 10, 2008  09:31 AM ET

It's SEC and Big 12 for sure.

I am a Big Ten guy at heart but the Big 10 is down this year so I can't see Penn State making a run at the National Championship.

November 10, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Finally the BCS might work.... Big 12 champ v SEC champ. Atleast you Big-10/Pac-10 guys get your rose bowl

November 10, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Bama will NOT make it through the SEC championship game without a loss. If not before the Championship game then an upset by either MS. State or Auburn. If they are undefeated ... Florida will wipe up the Georgia Dome with Alabama. LSU should have beaten them...if they had a QB they would have for sure.

Meow, says Mike the kitty. Shut up loser.

Let's not forget Notre Dame. If they get 6 wins they are automatically in the BCS championship game and not one of the listed teams can hang with balding Prince Charming and future Dancing with the fat stars Charlie Weis

Seriously????........ Come on.... You're trying to get a rise out of everyone here, right?
The best team in college football? So Penn State would stop that Texas Tech offense? Or be able to move the ball on any of those SEC defenses?
A very good Iowa team? Do you watch much football outside of the Big 10?

I agree with your prediction. FLA vs Texas Tech, with Florida earning another National Championship

There are of course some worst case scenarios (Florida and/or Alabama both lose along the way, or Missouri wins the Big 12 championship game) which might prevent the BCS title from not being a Big 12/SEC game, but at this point to not believe it'll turn out that way doesn't make you a Penn State hater. PSU's ranked #8 and has one game against an unranked team and another against a team barely in the top 20. The hill's just too steep and there isn't enough time to climb back into the top 2 unless a LOT of weird things happen in the next month.

And no, Iowa isn't "very good". That's lip service a coach would pay to keep bulletin board material down to a minimum, but that team is most definitely not "very good" or even "somewhat good".

"Haters?" Your casual use of that bit of slang broadcasts your immaturity louder than a civil defense siren. You and your comments are dismissed as so much noise. You do a disservice to Penn State, Jo Pa, and the Nittany Lions. Frankly, you can and should do better, son.

Nice try , your loyalty is admirable but you don't know much about football or haven't watched anyone else play this year. There is at least 5 or 6 teams in the country this year that would go undefeated in the Big 10 and I'm a Buckeye fan.

November 10, 2008  12:30 PM ET

All Alabama needs to do is control the clock and keep tTim T on the bench.

HAHAHA! That's the best joke I've heard all day! I needed that laugh. Thanks, Bro.
