Did Gold Glove ruin Rangers' plans for Young?

So much for asking Michael Young to switch positions. The Gold Glove American League managers and coaches bestowed upon Young on Thursday will likely entrench him even further at shortstop for the Rangers for the foreseeable future. Young adamantly doesn't want to change positions anyway, but, with talented Elvis Andrus coming quickly in the minors, maybe by 2010, the Rangers have been trying to figure out how to get both in the lineup. Young's ability to make the routine play and turn the double play was what earned him his first Gold Glove. Andrus is more athletic with more range. Rangers insiders recently told me that ideally, once Andrus is ready, the team could potentially feature an infield with Chris Davis at first, Young at second (no, not third), Andrus at short and Ian Kinsler at third.

Does not make sense.....put the boy where he is doing a good job and leave him. Texas Rangers.....c'mon man. Let's be real about this issue with them Texas Rangers. They really do not know what they are doing.....84.65% of the time. And the boy with the crack issues from his past......watch out brother. Watch out for him people. A dud in the second half. Got his jollies at the home run derby then......sputtered-out....no, flamed-out. Out of lighter fluid.

The Cardinals need a shortstop. What would it take Texas? This would improve the team more than trading for Holliday.

Now THIS is a trade that would make sense for the Cards! Though I don't think Texas will try to deal Young at all, his glove and bat would make a HUGE improvement for the Cards' middle infield.

They should trade their best catcher for lowrie and david pauly

What does winning a gold glove have anything to do with it? Make a decision and tell his has to do it!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Everyone...do you remember back in yesteryear when the employees (players) actually realized they work for management ( Mangers) and were kind of expected to do what they say to collect their pay check...I know that sounds as crazy as no internet or an old white guy as president, but yes there was a day when the players actually just played the game, collected a check and were thankful for the opportunity to earn said huge checks and do what is best for the club. Hey Mike, they're not asking you to take a pay cut and it might help your offense to be able to move to 2nd.

Michael Young is one of baseball's classiest guys and has proven in the past he will do whatever management thinks makes the team better. If management thinks the team will better by Young moving the second he will do so.

For a drunken old man you sure know your baseball!

You're an absolute idiot. Atleast you made me chuckle.

Why not bring up the new guy to play 2B? Kinsler can move to 3B, and Young can stay at SS for a couple of years until the new guy has proven he can hit big league pitching. Seems simple to me...why make a big deal out of this?

November 10, 2008  11:16 AM ET

Sorry...just saw post #6. Apologies for the redundancy.

November 10, 2008  12:45 PM ET

Better yet trade Young to the Tigers! We need a shortstop.

November 10, 2008  01:18 PM ET

For some reason, Michael Young always seems to go 3 for 4 in like every game against the Twins, has a solid glove and I dont know what they are talking about better range with the new guy? The man just won a gold glove and had a solid season and now he is in danger of switching positions? Shoot Billy Smith and email or a phone call, we'll take him off your hands.

Oh, now this would be a Twins fan's dream!!!!! Young always seems to beat the heck out of the Twins rotation every game he plays against them. I'm pretty happy with the thought of Casilla maybe being moved to SS. But to have Young play there for the Twins...words aren't enough to describe how cool that would be!

November 10, 2008  06:58 PM ET

Yeah, Chilly, all you have to do now is convince Gardy to actually MOVE Casilla to SS. But he seems to have a crazy man crush on Punto, <cough "BUM"> and we will probably end up resigning him to play SS.

lets be honest Rangers. Your problem is not where you need to put Michael Young, its pitching. It doesnt matter where you put Young if your pitching staff is the highest in MLB.

November 10, 2008  10:19 PM ET

People dont realize that back when AROD was in Texas, it wasnt Ian Kinsler at second because he was drafted in 03', AROD's lastyear, and Alfonso Soriano was traded for AROD. It was Micheal Young at 2B but I think he is a better fit at short RIGHT NOW for Texas.

That is SOOOOO true. Who give a crap where Micheal Young plays, they need PITCHING!!!

This guy is one of the best shortstops in baseball, and a super player. You never, ever move someone like that for an unproven player.
