Cribbs: 'Looked like some guys quit'

Browns special teams ace Josh Cribbs agreed with running back Jamal Lewis that some players quit during Thursday's 34-30 loss to Denver and even took it a step further, saying the team needs to weed out those players. "We can't figure out what's in everyone's head when they're playing, but that's what it looked like -- that some guys quit," said Cribbs. "Jamal is a hard runner. He goes out there and busts his tail every day, every game. I do the same, and it hurts when players don't show the same will and same fire and desire to win. It's a shame sometimes, but we just have to pull together as a team, weed out those guys and play the rest of the season out."

So I guess when you say weed out those guys you mean everyone but you and Jamal? Just be ready to back up your talk when you basically single out the two of you (We) as the ones not quitting.

The guys calls out his team mates in public and says they "quit, " then says they have to find a way to " come together as a team."...I do not think he majored in psychology.

Trust me, someone in that locker room will as who are you talking about? They will want to know names. I don't want to name anybody is the WRONG answer. Josh you may have over stepped your boundaries.

Hate to disagree with everyone up here but he has a point. Edwards looks like a Jr. high receiver this year trying to catch the ball. Winslow is doing his usual, looks good one week and then disappears the next. They have finally brought in Quinn who looked very good on Thursday night. Rodgers is a beast in the middle right now and some of the other younger lineman are doing a good job. But look at their performance the last two weeks...winning, then grasping defeat from the jaws of victory. 60 minutes, have to play them all or you end up losing in the end. Cribbs and Lewis do play all 60 minutes and if I was one of them I would be calling out some players and getting everyone on board as well. I've seen Cribbs and Lewis deliver harder hits running the ball than some of the pathetic defensive backs have delivered this year on opposing RB's and WR's. So yea, weed them out. Just like Singletary is doing in SF...look at the change of attitude out there. You are either here to play, or you're not, if you're not then move along and we'll find someone that is.

Considering cutler passed for 447 yds, perhaps the "quitters" they're referring to are on defense.... maybe in the secondary or up front?

Good for him, I hate when teams quit.

i couldn't agree more! They had a chance to win that up until the end if they hadn't quit!

i remember seeing brandon mcdonald freezing up and not making the tackle on the tight end when he was in position to do so. End result: Touchdown broncos. 27-23. Also, on the drive before hand, I witnessed sean jones not helping brandon mcdonald over top. End result: 1 play 93 yard touchdown reception.

I want to get one point over and I really don't care how some feel about it. Cribbs and Lewis said that some of the guys quit. And if you know the game you can obviously tell who they were and they know who they were. Now lets get something else correct here. The Browns aren't good PERIOD. Last year they over acheived on a week record and now that they are playing a tougher schedule the truth about the team is coming out. We have great talent that isn't producing like we thought they would. Cribbs is are only threat. Winslow is mad and wants to be traded and the quarterback situation that has been talked about forever isn't any better off with Quinn unless they start using the whole field. He played great but he didn't throw anything over twenty yards and sooner or later they have to take the trainning wheels off and let him throw the ball down field. As poorly as Edwards is at catching the ball he still can stretch the field. The offense is ran totally different with Quinn in there than Anderson. And Romeo needs to get his act together and do what he does best. He is a defensive coach, not a head coach and just because he has that title of head coach doesn't mean he can't coach defense anymore. They need linebackers and defensive backs and they need to get aggressive and stop being so damn passive.

I'm sure some may have quit but I can't side with Jamal and Josh for saying this. It just isn't good for the team dynamic.

I love the finger pointing that comes when a team is circling the drain..... there needs to be something to talk about when the playoffs ain't happening....

I prefer when they call out teammates by name.... but that's just me....

November 11, 2008  11:57 AM ET

so where will the craziness end up today

November 11, 2008  12:06 PM ET

Nobody quit, they are just not that good, at least the defense. My gosh I could have made that tackle on Eddie Royal to stop him from scoring on that 93 yarder. Brady had one bad throw, Winslow was hot and cold and why in the world didn't they try to run the ball at least once on the last drive, playaction or something.

November 11, 2008  12:24 PM ET

They have blown leads 2 weeks in a row. I can understand the frustration. Probably a dumbass thing to say publicly though.

It might create total chaos but I wouldn't have minded hearing exactly who quit.

November 11, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Well look at it this way J. HOVA: CARLITO... you had two offensive players saying players quit. That means that the defense quit. But I'm going to take it even farther and say that yes the defense quit and the offensive coach quit. When they went up by double digits they for the second week in a row stop being aggressive with the play calling and it cost them big time. 3 and outs and your tired defense is right back on the field.

This is another example of why Romeo should be let go. I believe some players quit also, but Romeo should be the one calling them out. He has no control over that team and was only hired because he came from a winner in New England (just like Charlie up in Notre Dame). I think Winslow is a distraction, but he has heart and skills. We should trade Braylon Edwards while he still has value. He has all the potential in the world but I don't think he has the fortitude to be a great reciever in the NFL.
