NASCAR may ban all testing

07:52 AM ET 11.11 | NASCAR executives are moving toward perhaps a virtual ban on all testing through the early months of 2009, until the economy settles down, according to NASCAR teams. That's a reversal of the plan just a few months ago to open up testing for 24 days per team at Sprint Cup tour tracks. Currently teams can test en masse at seven official NASCAR tests at Cup tour speedways. And teams can test anywhere else at any time. NASCAR could bar teams from testing at any NASCAR-sanctioned tracks, such as Kentucky.

If there are not to be any changes with the cars or rules, why not head into the new season cold turkey? Besides, Helton will change his mind again a few times between now and then!

Have to agree with this possible change. The economy is flat and every business and even non business people make adjustments in cash outlay at a time like this. It's merely an attempt to save money especially for the smaller teams. With that being said, before FLOAT sends some of that pig meat this way, I am not defending Nascar or Helton, merely making an observation. LOL

They'll still have testing.
The problem is that it'll be during the first 300 laps on race day.

GM stocks are now worthless, that according to Global Financial Data, last Friday they posted a $2.5 billion net loss for the third quarter, $4.2 billion operating loss in the first 9 months of this 2008.
Nascar will feel this soon enough.

Furniture Row Racing announced on Tuesday that it will run a limited schedule in 2009.
"This has nothing to do with our on-track performance," team president Joe Garone said in a statement released by the team. "This is simply a business decision by Furniture Row of balancing priorities in a tough economy and, from all appearances, looks to be getting even tougher."
