Angels won't make Teixeira an offer
The Angels hold exclusive negotiating rights to Mark Teixeira until midnight Thursday, but they are not expected to make an offer to the free-agent first baseman by then, and it could be days, or even a week or two, before they bid on the slugger. By no means is that a reflection of the Angels' interest in retaining Teixeira, who is their top priority this winter; it's simply a negotiating tactic they will likely take in pursuit of a premier player who will be in high demand once he hits the open market Friday. Agent Scott Boras, who represents Teixeira, has apparently made it clear to the Angels that his client plans to test the market, regardless of any offer the Angels make during the 15-day window in which they hold exclusive negotiating rights. Teixeira, 28, is expected to draw heavy interest from the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals, and he will likely command a deal between five and 10 years in length for at least $20 million a year. If the Angels make an aggressive offer to Teixeira now it would give Boras even more leverage as he begins negotiations with other teams and probably drive up Teixeira's price even higher.

A wise move by the Angels. Let other teams dictate the market, then make your play. Hope it pays off for them in the long run...

Good, they have plenty of money. I think Boras should negotiate ALL Yankee contracts. :)

I want the Sox to get Teixeira and trade Papi. We know these Dominican players were not shy about lying about their age. Papi is probably closer to 40 than 33 and isn't getting any younger. Tex, Lowell and Youkilis could share the 1st and 3rd base duties defensively while each would get about 30% of the games at DH (rest).
This would give the Sox 3 excellent bats in the line up and 3 Gold Glove caliber players to man 2 positions.
Could some one call Theo and make the suggestion, he won't answer my calls, LOL

For what it will cost most teams, let him fly. Seriously, a ten year contract? Who's to say he doesn't suck in five years from injuries. All the risk falls on the team that signs him, this guy can just take the check to the bank.

Smart move. Boras clients never sign in the first few weeks anyway so why make a deal only to know with certainty that it will be rejected and then used by Boras as a tactic to get the other teams to bid higher than that.

I think that goes without saying. I've seen very few (if any) who think Boras and his tactics are good for baseball ... though some have argued he's just doing his job.

Border wars.
Maybe it's my paranoid nature, but I get a sneaky suspicion Boras/Sox are in bed somehow. Sox overpay for Dice-K (arguably) and Drew (definitely).

Boras, and I'm no fan, is good for baseball PLAYERS. it is a union in a huge business and need someone to negotiate on their behalf. Nobody presents a case better for his clients than Boras. He creates a book of each FA highlighting their value. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. To my knowledge he hasn't been accused as lacking integrity or anything slimy.

What antics? The only thing he's done that ______ me off was his attempt for ARod attention during the 2007 WS. Other than that, I can't think of antics that have annoyed me.
